Thanks to all of you who answered my post " Advice needed. " I called

my doctor Thursday night and left a message that I wanted to try

Cytomel to see if my Free T3 range and symptoms would improve. I never

thought he would prescribe it, but he did!! I have you all to thank

for this!

He prescribed 25 mg Cytomel, 1/2 pill to be taken for two weeks daily

then one pill daily after that. If any of you have any advice about

this med, please let me know. I hope it will help me feel better, I

believe it will.

You guys are great--thank you SO much! My hope has been restored.

Others on Cytomel may be able to help more.. but watch for hyper

symptoms.. not from being hyper but from having too much T3 at one

time.. if you get symptoms of hyper after your first 1/2 tablet dose

you may want to change the way the doc has prescribed it. As a general

rule the body may have a hard time adjusting..you need to work up slow

like Armour.. so maybe a 1/4 tab twice a day for two weeks and the 1/2

tablet twice a day after that.. Some people do well taking it all at

once but most need to spread it out.. similair to your Armour..

What is your Armour dosing and did he say timing to take it with the

Armour?

Can you list all meds, supplements, herbs etc for us to oggle along

with dosing strength etc? Hopefully one of us can see a pattern or

help you figure out something..

I agree with Kat... that's a lot of T3 to jump into all at once... I'd go

with a quarter tab twice a day for a couple of weeks, watching your

resting pulse rate and how you are feeling.... if all is well then you

can increase... either go with a quarter tab three times a day or a 1/2

tab twice a day....

Cytomel works well taken sublingually... that solves some of the issues

of food in the stomach affecting absorption...

With the trial period and easing up the dose you'll better be able to

determine if you do well with smaller does of T3 or are one that does

better with a larger single dose.... It's easier on your body to start

with the smaller doses and see how you react...

Hi kats3boys. My doctor did not say when I should take the

Cytomel. Is it better to take it after the Armour instead of with

it? I am currently taking 120 mg of Armour in one dose in the

morning. My last labs, the Free T3 was 259 (230-420) and the Free T4

was 1.44 (0.89-1.76).

Does the FT1 test have any significance? This doctor is the first to

run it. My result was 2.3 (1.4-3.1) and the TUp was 29.7 (22.5-

37.0).

I take a lot of different meds and supplements because I am also

being treated for two serious tick-borne illnesses. For reasons

unknown, I am severely potassium, magnesium, and iron deficient so I

take prescription potassium, magnesium, and iron. If anyone has

input on if this could be thyroid related or what it could be from,

I would love to hear it. I eat very healthy, but it is as though my

body does not absorb these. I would love to find the cause for it

instead of having to take so many pills.

I take antbiotics for the tick-borne illnesses. In addition to the

prescription potassium, magnesium and iron I take Prevacid and

Tricor (for high triglycerides which I believe is from the thyroid

problem). Supplements I take are Milk Thistle, multi-vitamin, COQ-

10, Adrenal Support, Rhodiola Energy, and Cordeyceps. From what I

have read, it sounds like I should add Selenium also. I take all

supplements apart from the thyroid meds.

Thanks for your interest and help--it is very appreciated!

Hi , thank you for your response.

I am glad to know the Cytomel can be taken sublingually also. This

is how I take the Armour. It really helps since I am taking so many

meds and have to juggle when I take them so they don't interfere

with each other.

I read your posts after I had already taken the 1/2 25mcg Cytomel so

I hope I don't get hyper symptoms. I agree that it would probably

be better to do 1/4 of the pill in the am and 1/4 later in the day.

What time do you suggest? The afternoon? I am going to start

taking it that way tomorrow.

Thanks for all of your help :)

Hi ya.

My doc started me at 5 mg twice daily but I just took 1/2 a pill at first — 2.5 mg.

T3 is a potent drug and as Kats said, you can feel “hyper” from it---

I would just take 1/4 pill at first for a few days---and see how you feel.

A few questions for you.. How do you feel in the morning as compared

to the rest of your day?

Do you have energy when you wake up?

Do you have energy after your Armour dose but crash in the early

afternoon?

I am almost thinking Armour morning dose, lunch 1/4 of Cytomel pill,

dinner 1/4 of Cytomel pill..

I would definitely add some Sellium to the mix to see if you can help

with conversion issues to hold you steady when you are not getting

direct T3..T3 has a very short half life and I wonder if taking all

your Armour in the morning and then letting your body starve of T3 for

the rest of the day could be your issue..

I forgot to add the math in so you undestand what I am getting at..

Armour is 9mg per grain of T3..so two grains..you are taking 18mg of

T3 all in the morning...if you are taking 1/2 a pill of a 25mg pill

then you are adding 12.5 mg to the 18 mg..so 30.5 mg add the doc

wants you to work up to 43mg of T3..

I am not saying your body does not need this T3..but in two weeks

time if taking everything in the morning you will be taking 43mg of

T3 in the morning..that is equal to 5 grains of Armour minus the T4.

Hopefully the T3 will be the answer for you, but this is why I am

saying slow and steady and spread it out..that and 2 grains to 5

grains on Armur is a big jump and you may end up somewhere

inbetween.

Thanks kats3boys! You have given excellent information. I am very

tired in the mornings, and I wonder if it is because that is when I

take the Armour. At one time, I took 3/4 of it in the am and the

rest in the afternoon but I believe it was a lower dose and there

did not seem to be a benefit.

I think it may be better to take the Armour in the morning and then

as you suggested 1/4 at lunch and 1/4 at dinnertime. Do you think

it would be better to start with just 1/4 pill daily for a week or

two? I think starting tomorrow, I will take the Armour in the am

and then 1/4 Cytomel at lunch time. Let me know what you think.

I cannot thank you enough!

Thanks for your reply Sue.

I took 1/4 of the Cytomel this morning with the Armour and I will

take the other 1/4 around lunch time and see how that works.

You guys are great, I really appreciate all of your help. Thank

you!!
