Guest guest
I actually got my doctor to prescribe Armour for my husband, even though all his labs were " normal. " FT3 was 249, FT4 was 1.1 and TSH was 1.47. First he gave me the B.S. about his TSH was normal, and raising thyroid might cause osteoporosis. I argued that he had all the symptoms: low basal temps, constipated, depressed, fatigued, tinnitus, brain fog, etc., and that I wanted to try a trial, therapeutic dose, just to see if it might help, since his FT3 was low enough that even if it came up, it'd still be within " normal " range. I think doc was uncomfortable prescribing the Armour so suggested we see an endocrinologist. Oh great, I thought, that's the end of that. But when we called the endo, the earliest available appt wasn't till February, so we called my doc back and told him that. I again pressed for a trial therapeutic dose, argued how TSH was a pituitary hormone and not actual bioavailable thyroid, etc. and I guess rather than argue with me, he agreed! So now I've got a prescription for 15 mg, 2x/day, with 2 refills. Alas, hubby's temps are still not stable and we're still increasing Isocort. But I actually jumped the first hurdle. Could not believe it. So to everyone out there--there IS hope. I think it helped that my doc is a D.O. and only in his early 30s. Probably too young to be set in his ways like a real endo yet. Didn't even know what Armour was when I first saw him for a refill as a new patient. Had to look it up in his drug manual. He did ask then why I didn't take Synthroid though--told him I had a conversion problem, and I guess that satisfied him. Barb
