Lupus is very hard to diagnose and it would be nice if there were a

simple test that was definative.

" 95%-98% of patients with SLE will have a positive ANA test, but the

majority of people with a positive ANA test do not have SLE. A

positive ANA test can be found in many conditions, including

Sjogren's Syndrome, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, & mixed

connective tissue disease. Many normal healthy people will also have

a positive ANA test. Therefore a positive ANA test, on it's own,

does not mean that person has lupus. "

The clear cut answer for me besides the clinical and diagnostic

Lupus related testing, was the fact that the anti-malarial drugs and

immunosuppressive drugs put my Lupus in remission. On the two

occasions where I have tried to reduce these meds I've flared.

Bug,

I also read in Wallces book as well as many sites that a ANA greater than 1280 indicated a true rheumatic disease. I dont know what this mens but mine was that high.

I think if you have a low positive ANA then it can be found in healthy people, not exceedingly high ones.

That would just been that you might have one of the many rheumatic diseases,

but it is not specific for lupus.
