Hi Sue,

I have been taking 150mcg of T4 and 20mcg of T3 since

last August; for 18 months previous to that I was on

T4 only. The addition of T3 made a lot of difference

to my physical and emotional well being. In fact the

immediate effect was so dramatic it felt as if I had

somehow slipped back into my body and for the first

time in years it fitted me!

During the autumn I started to lose hair, which

bothered me a lot. I understand that this can happen

with a hormone change, the hair in 'resting' phase can

all begin to shed at once instead of gradually. It

could of course be due to menopause or just be one of

those 'women things'. My hair is thinner than it's

ever been but still looks fairly OK and the benefits

of the T3 (I have more energy for my job, more

emotional resillience, more creativity and stamina)

far outweigh the hair thing.

I have sometimes overdone things; the temptation to

make up for lost time is sooooo strong! As long as I

still get enough sleep, try to avoid over stressful

situations and eat sensibly I think this is as good as

it's going to get.

Good luck!

Hi --- sounds like it works for you and that’s encouraging. On another board it seems they are very “anti” Cytomel aka T3 and only “advocate” the Armour Thyroid natural combo and I was beginning to wonder if I should switch or try to based on all the negative feedback I was getting about synthetic T3. I am also perimenopausal so I have those overlapping symptoms as well. I have plent of energy but what I don’t seem to have is a metabolism that will work right – in that I exercise and eat healthy and low calories but it’s near-impossible to lose weight. I finally stopped the scale from moving upward in late January and am hoping that with the added T3 it will also boost my metabolism... My Free T3 has been just above the lowest end of the range.

Thanks for you input!

Sue,

You said you had been concerns about some groups only advocating ONE

type of thyroid med. I had that exact same concern in other discussion

groups. My sis is on Synthroid only, and has been for over 10 years

happily. I understand that only T4 being that effective is unusual. My

thought is that there isn't a one-size-fits-all medicine, or even a

one-size-fits-all med combo out there. If something works for you - that

is the important part :)

Hi Lynn, My name is Tina and I am a person that has been diagnosed as hashimotos thyroditis disease but as yet I am not being treated. I have not as yet seen a endo cause of course my Family Dr thinks he can treat me for everything and "HIS" opinion is that at this time my TSH is not bad enough to be treated . I had my thyroid tests done in I think Nov of last year or Oct anyway My TPO was 951.5 and the range is 35 needless to say I have hashi's. I am still working on getting a refferal for the Endo so I can finally get somekind of relief . I was on the Phone to lots of sources today I spoke to a Nurse( a Dear Friend) and a Health Coach from my insurance provider and to an herbalist Dr. All of which have told me the same thing YOU NEED TO GET THAT THYROID TAKEN CARE OF NOW!!!!!! As of Tomarrow my Family Dr might just be my ex family DR cause if he don't give me the

referal I am to call my health coach back and they will find get me the Refferal and i will be seeing the Endo and my Family Dr will be fired by the insurance company not me. So you hang in there it can be done. TinaLynn with Poochi's Tailor wrote: Sue,You said you had been concerns about some groups only advocating ONE type of thyroid med. You're not the Lone Ranger on the brain fog. Sometimes I'm thinking Ahlzheimers, but hope not. I'm 54, it's way too soon, or better not ever. Would you believe that, in the beginning of my stint on the thyroid boards, I was so fogged out that I would forget which board I was on, repeatedly, over and over, and make a message to someone on another board who wouldn't even know what I was talking about. I thought I was going insane or something, this was happening soooo much! Other things in my life, at the time, were like that too. I still don't remember when something happened/is happening, at times, though I remember a conversation about it, but don't remember any time frame as to when it took place. Days ago? Weeks ago? Maybe two months ago, lol??

Yes, I've read that in more than one place. A yr or two ago, a nurse and I talked our staff director into checking everyone on our wing out for thyroid disorder, but want to guess what he tested? Yep, you got it. By that time, the elderlys' pituitaries are not even going to be responding like a younger person's, if they've aged in all these ways. Couldn't talk him into running anything else at all. It's all over the place, sad.

Re: new member - question

I read an article somewhere a few years ago that ahlzheimers patients sometimes were being misdiagnosed and they just had really bad hypo. From years of being misdiagnosed and non treatment... weird huh? Anyone else have a thought on that?

Oh I know exactly what your saying for the first time im my life I did something that embarassed me beyond belief. I Went to the store last Friday and forgot where I was and what I was doing there I just stood there dumb founded and didn't know what i had gone there for So to save face i quickly went to the counter and got my hubby a pack of Cigarettes. Got out of there as soon and possible cause I felt the tears wellling up in my eyes. People were looking at me the girl at the counter was saying Tina whats' wrong do you need help I was so embarassed. I got to my car and just came home and cried my eyes out. Sue.. you should be feeling the effects of the T3 within a couple of days of taking it... it doesn't' build in the tissues, like T4, before it can be used... it's used right away...

How much are you taking, of the T3? And how are you taking it?

Hi Lynn,I have NO idea yet what works for me since I never felt any difference when starting the levoxyl 2 years ago. I just added the T3 Saturday and feel no different but will give it a few weeks. My main concern is my metabolism – and my cholesterol — both have gone way up in the last two years when I was diagnosed with hashis/hypo and goiter. My T3 has been just barely above the lowest end of the range so I will know more in about 6 weeks when I have labs done. Thanks,Sue

That is sooo sad.. And it all has to do with the propaganda that the makers of the synthetic crap started with TSH being the only test needed....

sigh
