The Exceptionals- Joint Military Conference on Autism

and other Disabilities

Commonwealth Autism Service and Specialized Training of Military Parents

(STOMP) will be sponsoring " The Exceptionals- Joint Military Conference on

Autism and other Disabilities " from 1-3 June at the Gray Research Center at

MCB Quantico, VA. All three days will be open to all that desire to

participate. Day one will focus on the medical, pharmaceutical and

behavioral aspects. Day two will focus on best practice in schools and

community. Day three will be comprised of eight different break out

sessions (offered in the AM and then again in the PM) and ending with a

parent discussion panel. There will be a modest, all inclusive cost to

attend the conference. The fee will cover the cost of the catering for each

day, so basically you will mostly be paying for what you will be eating.

Individuals will be able to attend one or all days and will be charged

accordingly. Advertising and registration will go out no later than 1 April

with a registration deadline of May 6th, in order to assure good turn around

time. Payment will be due at the time of registration. Once registration

is received, a confirmation, conference agenda and base pass will be sent to

the individual. After lengthy discussions, it was decided that child care

will not be available at this conference, due to legalities and liabilities.

The risk of having multiple autistic children, that have never met each

other, with attendants that they've never met, could make for a very

volatile situation. Please pass this on to any other military sponsor that

you know of with a special needs individual. This is intended to be a

low-cost way for military families to get the latest information on services

that are specifically available to them. More details will be forthcoming.

If you have any immediate questions, please contact me. Thanks!
