Guest guest
Hello - hoping someone out there can help me. I know I will get a faster response from you guys than from my doc and I'd like to get going on this medication. I have been on Synthroid (100mcg)post tt and metascan and TSH is still high. My doc has put me on Cytomel as of today (5mcg twice a day) and the directions on prescription say to take once in morning and once at noon time on an empty stomach. Currently I take Synthroid at 6:30 a.m. and seems like I heard somewhere you should not take Cytomel within 2 hours or so from Synthroid. This would put me taking Cytomel mid-morning (if I wait because of Synthroid)and then again pretty soon after that at noon. Does this seem right? Any weird side effects anyone has had on the Cytomel? My doc said it's not for everyone and I was too exhausted to click fast enough to ask her what she meant by that. Any info anyone could provide would be deeply appreciated. Thank God for this website!!! Follicular cancer and tt 2/13/03 Metascan with tracer 3/12/03 30 mcc ablation 3/15/03 Hypo-hell ever since

My doc has put me on Cytomel as > of today (5mcg twice a day) I'm a bit confused - why is she putting you on a small dose of Cytomel? To get your TSH lower, you should be getting your T4 dose increased. 100mcg is not a very high dose for someone who's had a TT and ablation, though it does, of course, vary. Do you know what your current TSH is? Most of us use just T4 alone, and use Cytomel (25mcg tabs, rather than 5 mcg) along with our T4 for a few weeks after the scan, just to help us feel better till the T4 kicks in. Those who do take Cytomel on a more normal basis generally do so AFTER their TSH is at the right level, and they may still not be feeling quite right. I would ask the doctor the purpose of putting you on Cytomel. How long are you supposed to use it? > the directions on prescription say to > take once in morning and once at noon time on an empty stomach. This seems strange too. I would think it would make more sense to spread it out more. If you DO end up using it, keep in mind that, like T4, it should be taken several hours from things like iron and calcium. > Currently I take Synthroid at 6:30 a.m. and seems like I heard > somewhere you should not take Cytomel within 2 hours or so from > Synthroid. Nope - no problem taking them together. > Any weird side effects anyone has had on the > Cytomel? Some people find it gives them hyper symptoms like heart palpitations (though that's with a larger dose).
