That is the most likely explanation for why your WBS was clean (ie, no uptake shown on scan), and not that your cells no longer absorb iodine. If your Tg was higher (usually above 5.0), then the doctors start to suspect that iodine no longer works and other tests are done to find the thyca. Your Tg should drop to zero after this ablation. I'm curious what your RAI dose was. Just thought I'd say yes the formula I have seen most often is your goal weight time 10 but be sure to add 1-300 cals for activity. Keep in mind that the less weight you have to lose the slower it will be. You don't need as many cals as you used to but don't want to cut too low or your body will go into starvation mode. It's finding the right balance and being patient that is key. Just keep at it. You'll get there! Gena > I have a question for anyone who knows the answer. I didn't speak because I figured that she could not hear it, so I used very animated facial expressions and gestures. It was very difficult to communicate that way, and I decided then and there that I would not do anything less for my daughter because of her loss. I talked to her and give her exposure to everything (including toys with sounds) that I would do for a child with normal hearing. I decided that I would do much more for my daughter because of her loss, but I would not skip anything, or do anything less because of it. I figured that if exposure to conversation, music and toys with sound would not hurt, then why not do it. This is an attitude that has personally served us very well. My daughter is nearly 3 1/2 with a moderate-severe loss and is doing awesome. Her language is exploding and she speaks in 7-9 word sentences. I would suggest that you give her the toys anyway. She may be able to enjoy other aspects of the toys now, even without any technology such as aids or implants. And, some kids toys are quite loud -- she may be able to hear if she holds them close and there is not a lot of background noise. Especially since you do not yet know the level of loss. Until then we had NO idea that she had any type of loss, we thought she had some type of speech issue. That Christmas we gave her toys that made noise and those that didn't....she played with them all. I think her favorite that year was the Blue that would come to you when you clapped your hands. The Christmas before that she was given a keyboard that she still loves to play with. Yes, the volume was usually a little louder than I would have liked, but she enjoyed it all the same. Now that we know about her loss, the only thing I make sure of with toys is that they have a good sound. That means if they talk, it should sound as much like a real person as possible. So far we've only had to return one gift because of that. (It was so bad that I could barely understand it). Give her the toys as you would have. Enjoy them right along side with her. Then it's just a piece of plastic to a kid who can't hear the sounds. Often the ones that make noise also vibrate and have sections that light up, move around or things that pop up. Those would still be fun. Plus, at least with our son, he can hear the higher sounds better. Without his aids he misses all conversational sounds. But high pitched ones come through, and I remember those toys all seemed to have higher, tickling sounds. One had little cars that ran down a zig-zag ramp -- there were literally hours spent dropping the cars down the ramp, picking them up and doing it again. He's always loved moving parts. Also, the Little People farm, ark (it went in the tub) and school bus were the favorites. Sound was never a focus for us when it came to toys. In retrospect the only one with sound that stands out is that silly bear. Which is one a shelf in his room. One of only 2 stuffed animal to survive the teenage purge. Even the rings on a stick. So I tried a more independent toy store. They had great stuff that didnt need to make noise. I do daycare, so 800 toys that make noise makes me nuts too.
