Guest guest
I was wondering when you apply for SSI do they just give you insurance? Is there any money that they give you every month? I was just thinking if they did I would apply and use that extra money to pay for extra therapy. Does anyone know? Just a thought on where I can find the extra services our son needs. I think I am going to have to find another job to pay for extra therapy he needs. I have called some groups like the Easter Seals and even the ish Rite that was mention here a while ago but they told me they only help school age children with learning disabilities (they were an hour away but what I have is time and no money).Does anyone else have any resources that we might tap into? Thanks so much for your help with this matter. -Clare
Guest guest
Hi -Clare, My name is Sheri and I have a 2 year old with Apraixia and sensory issues. She is non-verbal and we do use some simple sign language with her. I just recently applied for SSI and was turned down. They told me my although my daughter is disabled she dosen't fit their guidelines for beign disabled. I am in the process of appealing. My daughter gets speech and ot here in my home but there are other things that she needs that I am not going to be able to afford. The state that I live in (Louisiana) has a special program for persons for disibilites she was approved for the program but won't get any funding for at least 3 years. They are that backed up they are only processing Jan of 99 right now. If you can tell me of anything else I can do please let me know. Thanks, Sheri Re: [ ] SSI and Apraxia and where to find addtional funding I was wondering when you apply for SSI do they just give you insurance? Is there any money that they give you every month? Guest guest
I am not sure where you are located but you could try Shriners Hospital. They help childrent with all kinds of disbilities. Some people think its only for Crippled Children but its not. You could even call them if and request information if they aren't in your area they help kids all over. Also as far as I know SSI is a financial supplement and you could be approved for cash assistance but I believe it is based on your current income Hope this helps Sharon > I was wondering when you apply for SSI do they just give you > insurance? Guest guest
Hi, SSI is " Supplemental Security Income " for people with disabilities. Check out this site to see if your child qualifies. It will be based on your income. http://www.ssa.gov/
