ablation - need your support

After 10 years of enduring afibs I finally turned to ablation. Two weeks

ago, I did it. Please forgive me if I prefer not to mention where this

was done.

Based on my history of afibs (seemed proxysmal) I had hoped that PVI

will be sufficient. It turned out that my condition was masked by the

meds and was essentially chronic, and several linear scissions were also

made in my left atrium. The procedure took nearly five hours.

It is what happened subsequently that fills me with anxiety, and I

would be grateful for any information that will enlighten and encourage

me.

After the procedure I was put on flecainide (2X100 mg) and some beta

blocker. For a few days, the heart was in NSR and my spirits were up.

However, for the past few days I have experienced all sort of

arrhythmia. Most of the time, disturbances that belong to premature

contraction and skipped beats variety, but times it also feels like mild

afib, the sort of feeling you have towards the end of a paroxysmal

episode. I also had a rather nasty disturbance with AF and flutter mixed

together and the heart racing to 150. Fortunately it lasted only an hour

and I returned to NSR and then slipped into the various PAC's and PVC's.

I should note that before the ablation, episodes of AF lasted not less

than 12 hours and most of the time 24 hours.

Naturally all this is somewhat disappointing and is a cause of anxiety.

Have the procedure been successful?? I realize that while the heart is

healing all sorts of disturbances can occur. But, is what I am

experiencing typical? Has anyone out there shared similar experience?

How long can it last? Will it be the same of different as the days go

by? Etc,etc. You can readily imagine the questions that storm my mind.

Any input from you would be most appreciated. I realize that if I go

back over the correspondence of the support group I will find many

relevant answers, but I am in dire need also of fresh support.

Many thanks

Joe Y.

Your going through the normal recovery many of us have done. You

described it

well.

My recovery took three month, most take six weeks +/-. Stay in touch

with

your EP and let your body heal itself. It sounds like your on your way.
