Guest guest
About 6 months ago, when Chelsea's foot wouldn't stay in her shoe, her orthopedist widened the bar way beyond shoulder-width apart. He thought it would help her foot stay in the shoe because her foot would be at a different angle. It didn't really help - she ended up needing another set of serial casts. Anyway she wore her bar like that for about 3-months. Now she is almost a year old, and she always has her feet and legs way far apart when she is playing or sitting. She is perfectly comfortable doing a split, and she has trouble standing up because her feet are so far apart. They just sort of slide out from under her until she is in a straddle position. She just started physical therapy, and alot of the exercises they gave her to do involve sitting or kneeling with her knees together. I have to hold her knees together - they do not want to stay together at all. I think maybe that the muscles on the outside of her legs have shortened so that she is more comfortable in the straddle position than in a normal position. We have a checkup with her orthopedist next week , and I will try to get more info about it, but has anyone else had this problem? Thank you! Guest guest
Meridith- My son did the same thing for along time! He started walking at 10 months and when he did he walked as though he was in the DBB. His legs were spead out a little farther than shoulder distance. He always stood in the split stance too. It was really starting to freak me out, but my ortho specialist said it was nothing to worry about had nothing to do with clubfeet or the DBB. He said some children just learn to walk that way at first while others don't. It wasn't until my son was about 15 months or a little older that he started to walk with his feet at a " normal " distance. He is now 21 months old and walks, runs, stands normal. So don't worry it just takes them some time. > >Reply-To: nosurgery4clubfoot >To: nosurgery4clubfoot >Subject: Feet too far apart? >Date: Sun, 11 Jan 2004 03:23:23 -0000 > >About 6 months ago, when Chelsea's foot wouldn't stay in her shoe, >her orthopedist widened the bar way beyond shoulder-width apart. Guest guest
Hi. Mo's feet are also very far apart when he sits. He's only 7 1/2 months so it doesn't bother me so much that he doesn't really stand on them yet, but when I hold him in a standing position, they're far apart also. When is your appointment by Dr. Feldman? We're going on January 20th. Maybe we'll see you. and Mo
