The doc gives it to me if it has been over 24 hours since the initiation of A/Fib. Apparently there is a problem with blood clots forming in the atrial vestibule. As far a s I know Lovenox works as a powerful blood thinner and clot disolver. With Lovenox I can have Cardioversion almost immediately instead of waiting the four weeks it takes coumadin to do the same thing.Last time I had to pay out of pocket for the prescription. It cost $1450.00 ! I became an instant convert to National Health insurance. > > > >
Guest guest
I've used Lovenox three times now... for a week at a time, and always when I have gone over the 48 hour threshold of being in afib without converting on my own. I only used it when I was not theraputic on coumadin, however, and my understanding was that it worked as an immediate anti-coagulant, as opposed to coumadin, which has to build up before being theraputic. I did not think lovenox could be used in the place of coumadin, however, and I always took them together. cartagena229 wrote: I'm allergic to coumadin and was told by a cardiologist that I could use Lovenox injections to achieve same results that gained by using Heparin at the hospital. What I've discovered is that most cardiologist don't really know much about the use of this med or how to perscribe it. Is there anyone out there who uses Lovenox as a coagulant for A/fib I'd love to hear from you. I bought a week's worth " out of pocket " down in NC, and it was only $119.. that was for a box of 10 or 14, I think. stef
Guest guest
My E.P. switched me from coumadin to Lovenox for the two days preceding my atrial ablation, presumably to keep my blood thin enough to be safe up until the very day. It apparently is quick to take effect and quick to dissipate. Now I'm awaiting a second ablation, and he will probably do the same thing. This is the closest I can come to your situation. I'm 70. the use of lovenox instead of coumadin Hi members, I started using Coumadin in Florida, but soon learned that I was allergic to it. I am presently using aspirin, which at the of 73 is not ideal. However, I have Lovenox injection for use if a/fib episode goes beyond 3hrs. (My cardiologist's judgment) No scientific data exists (double blind studies)indicating the effectiveness of Lovenox for anticoagulation with a/fib, but it has been used in hospitals with increasing success on a/fib patients. I have no risk factors to date, but do have some mild MVP with regurgitation. Is there anyone out there who has my clinical profile and is also using Lovenox? Would like to hear from you. Thanks, Roy in NSR in PA.
