Why do we need protien?

I try to get in as much protien as possible. For the

last 1 1/2 months, I have been resistance training and

running. I have gained 7 pounds. I know some of it

is muscle, because I do look better.

If body builders use protien to build muscle and gain

mass, won't we have the same affect and see the

numbers on the scale move up.

Also, I will never diet again. After a crash diet I

was eating out-of-control. And, I am more hungry now

that I am exercising than when I was a couch potatoe.

I have gone through too much to plunge back into the

depths of MO.

Please help me.
