Guest guest
Hi, I have recently begun taking our son Zeke (7 mos- adopted internationally @ 6mos) to see Dr. Ponseti for his bilateral clubfeet. We love him, and are so grateful for the opportunity to have him treat Zeke's feet. Many thanks to this group for all your information; I'm not certain I would have found out about Dr. Ponseti another way, and your real life experiences were invaluable in making a decision about care. A question to aid our insurance coverage: how many visits did you have after the feet were put in the brace? Did you visit more frequently during the 23 hr. wearing period? How often did you visit when wearing the brace only when sleeping? The doctor's office has given some information, but I wanted to check this against your experiences, since it sounds as though sometimes it takes a few tries to get everything going smoothly. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi there, It took 5 visits before she went into the DBB full time. Then after she got in the DBB full time we didn't see the doctor until 3 months then they reduced her time from 23 hours a day to 16- 18 hours a day until she was 11 months old. We saw the doctor every 3 months after she got in her DBB and now we go every 4 months. My daughter is a year old. I was lucky that when she got in her DBB for the first time we didn't have any problems so she wasn't seen until 3 months later. She is wearing the brace nightly now and it is every 4 months because she is doing so well but i think it depends on the child. Some children go every 3 months and some go every 6 months. Guest guest
Hi Caroline- After we went into the DBB 23hrs we didn't see the doc for 3 months. He then reduced our time to 16 hours a day and told us to come back in 6 months. We go back every 6 months now and my son wears the DBB 12hrs. So twice a year. Just so you know when I appealed my insurance company they agreed for my son two see the doc twice a year for 2 years and then they would reevaluate things for the remainder years. I'm also curious where did you adopt Zeke from??? > >Reply-To: nosurgery4clubfoot >To: nosurgery4clubfoot >Subject: # of visits >Date: Mon, 10 Nov 2003 16:14:50 -0000 > >Hi, I have recently begun taking our son Zeke (7 mos- adopted >internationally @ 6mos) to see Dr. Ponseti for his bilateral >clubfeet. Guest guest
Hey Caroline, congratulations on the adoption. We are from Ohio and went to Iowa to see Dr. Ponseti. We didn't go during the 3 months 23 hours a day period. We have had check ups at 6 months of age, 1 year and 2 years. We have sent video and pictures a couple of times between visits. We saw a local ortho at 18 months at the suggestion of our pediatrician because she wasn't walking yet. He said there was no medical reason she wasn't walking, she was just getting around too well crawling and cruising furniture to have to take steps.
