My name is Alana and my son age 19 weeks has clubfeet. I want to talk to parents who have experienced the ponsetti treatment. What are there views on it? Are there any problems encountered by using it? Is it the best hope for ? I have met very few people who know much about this, so to me this appears to be the best place for me to meet people in the same boat. yours faithfully, alana_quigg
Guest guest
Ed, I dont know about doctors in your area, but to your other question about ideopathic v. genetic, genetic clubfoot comes in 2 categories - children whose parents or relatives have clubfoot, and children who have syndromes that include clubfoot (some heart defects, musculoskelatal defects like arthrogryposis, and groups of seemingly unrelated defects like cleft lip/palate, ear tags, hypospadias and clubfoot, which is a mutant defect of a chromosome whose number I forget). Ideopathic clubfoot is the classification for a baby that is otherwise completely healthy and has no family history of clubfoot. Ideopathic just means that they dont know what caused the clubfoot. Most cases of clubfoot are ideopathic. Angel [Fwd: RE: Welcome to nosurgery4clubfoot] Hello, I am Ed Cayetano from the Philippines. I have a 3 week old son born with bilateral clubfeet. The orthopaedic surgeon referred to us says that my son has idiopathic clubfeet and not congenital clubfeet. My son Marco was immediately put on casts on his 2nd day and we've had 3 cast changes already. >From what I have researched on the internet so far (still have a lot to go), I think the Ponseti method is the way to go - but it seems our doctor is unaware of this method. I would like to post questions to the group, or can I do it here now? Some immediate questions are: 1. How does one know for sure if its not congenital clubfeet but rather idiopathic? 2. Do you know / recommend any doctors here in the Philippines who practices the Ponseti method? Thanks. Ed
