Low thyroid causes insulin resistance and thius cna be a precursor to

Diabetes. Low cortiosl causes hypoglycemia which causes blood sugar

peaks and valleys whicjh also predisposes us to insulin resistance.

Insulin resistance IS Diabetes Type 2. There is a HUGE link.

, you would benefit by going on a diabetes

type diet, which is medium protein, veggies for carbs, and high in

fat like nuts and olive oil. That means no sugar, or

anything that converts into it, like white flour carbs, pasta, rice,

potatoes, corn, any grains, fruit or juices, etc. The principles

behind the diets are fascinating, because they are counter to

everything you've been taught.

Two excellent books that would help you are The Rosedale Diet by Ron

or The Diabetes Diet by Bernstein

These diets got me through my severely hypoglycemic stage.

the ironic thing is my diet is actually very close to the diabetes

diet,,,although I do eat some starchy complex carbs such as brown rice

and potatoes but I do stay away from simple carbs and sugars. Ive

always taken fish oil,,,eat nuts,,olive oil,,chicken w/o the skin

etc.I dont drink or smoke,,,I workout (although I really have to drag

myself to the gym). Im just really shocked that my blood sugar is so

high considering I live so healthy. I guess the thyroid can really

screw other things up from what I gather. thanks for the reply and links

Glad you're already eating healthy. Can't imagine what your glucose

would have been had you been eating the standard fast food diet. If

you love a potato or carb with dinner and aren't hypoglycemic, you

might just want to add a chromium supplement at dinnertime to reduce

the glucose spike. It really works!

I know a lot of people online who are hypothyroid and

also have insulin resistance (predibetes) or diabetes.

It does seem to have a common thread. I got diagnosed

with insulin resistance about 3 years ago when my

glucose was 107 and my insulin level was 18.
