Kathy,

For the past 20 + years I have had afib with almost every virus I have had.

Since I quit dairy, the only time I have had afib was simultaneously with a

virus, but now I fortunately do not have afib with every virus. There is a

virus going around here which seems very much like your description. It is

quite subtle, so it's difficult at first to figure out what is going on. I was

quite sick with it at the end of last week, but fortunately I didn't go into

afib with this one. I have never found it dangerous to go into afib with a

virus, but having afib on top of the virus certainly does not enhance one's

quality

of life. The symptoms of the virus just exacerbate the afib, often making

the pulse faster. I do hope you feel better soon! I wouldn't worry about it

because I would be dead by now if having a virus along with afib were dangerous.

Any feaver is a serious risk to trigger AF. Mild colds are less

dangerous but if you suffer from AF you must take to you bed. Drink

plenty of liquids and take some vitamin C . Take it easy on drugs to

make you sleepy and some common cold and flu meds can trigger AF.

Serious viruses affect billions of your cells and turn them into

virus producing factories .This can seriosly undermine the heart

tissue substrate. For that reason I think it is best to get the flu

shot.

Take care.

I have had AF problems for several years. I've also noticed that

when I have a cold or virus I seem to get some palpitations which I

thought might lead to a long term AF episode. I monitored my pulse

very closely during my last couple of bouts with a cold and it seems

to be more like PVC's instead of AF. My heart will seem to stop for

a couple of seconds and then kick back in with a hard thump. So it

seems I have PVC's during a cold or virus and then occasional AF and

crazy heartbeat when I'm otherwise healthy. I posted about this

quite awhile back (funny heartbeats during a cold), but didn't get

much response.
