This may seem like a silly question but, I just saw an ad on TV for

a de-fibrillator, and I am assuming it is for serious VT

fibrillation, so why do they not have a de-fibrillator for AFib

also???

Some one with this answer, I would be interested in knowing what you

think.

I'll take a wild guess and say that shocking the heart is serious

business. Someone in VT will die without quick help, so having any

random person try defibrillation is worth the risk, for someone in

afib it isn't.

That said, I think there is a pacemaker that detects afib and shocks

the heart, but I don't know how well it works.

My employer requires that every employee be certified for First Aid and

Adult, Infant, and Child CPR annually. They have started teaching the AED (the

external defibrillator you probably saw on TV ... we have ads running for it

here

as well). That is a replacement for CPR in life and death situations that

would require CPR, not something that could convert us. Bummer, huh? :)

Hi Mandy you might like to do a google or PubMed

search for ICDs (Implantable Cardiac Defibrillators)

for treating AF. There's loads of info on this out there.

I have a Gym III Defibilator and it keeps me out of afib. What it does is when

it reconizes a-fib it reactives the beats and gets it out. I don't even know

when I am in afib it only last a few sec and zap I am out. I have not had any

afib attacks in over 2 years. I am enjoying life again. Ask your dr next time

you talk to him about the Gym III defibillator it will also get you out of

v-tech if you ever go into that kind of rythm then u will get a shock. My life

is better since I got it. If you have any more questions e-mail me. God bless

Your friend from the heart,

son
