Hi all,

I left the group a few weeks ago (had a diff user name then - sorry if

this is confusing). I needed to get focussed on getting some medical

help and I did that. Now I wanted to come back and tell you what is

going on.

I had been trying to get in to see any doctor that wouuld consider my

lab results from healthcheckusa, my family history, my list of

symptoms AND a book by Boston Endocrinologist Dr. Ken Blanchard called

what your doctor may not tell you about hypothyroidism.

I have had success finally !

My usual doctor called this morning and said he read all my stuff, and

even took my book on a trip with him so he could read it. Yay! He

wants to have an extended office visit on Friday morning to talk it

all over with me. Yay! Now - I don't knkow yet what he'll say about

it all - but hey, it is a start!

Then, I called the other doctor I wanted to see - one I have never

visited before - but he was reviewing my information and this morning

his nurse told me that he undoubtedly was convinced from all the

documentation I presented that I do have hypothyroid! He hasn't seen

me personally -but that was so relieving to hear him agree with me! He

felt so strongly about it in fact that he recommended adamantly that

if my appointment with my usual doctor didnt work to my satisfaction,

that he wants me to see one of two internists at his other office

location. Isn't that cool? He said they're really good with thyroid

stuff - better than him - but he has no doubt I'm right about it being

my thyroid.

I can't tell you how cool it is to finally get someone (two doctors no

less) to finally acknowledge what I'm saying! There is hope.

Now - a couple quesions - remind me please - - I might have to try

just the synthetic med first to show whether it will work for me

before I can talk to them about adding some cytomel (t3) or some

natural thyroid. Which ones of the synthetics are the non-allergenic

ones? Which ones are better than synthroid? I know some are better

than others - but forgot which!

Hope everyone is doing okay. I missed you all so much!

Hugs,

-Lynn

If you are worried about dyes, fillers etc. Synthroid 50mcg is

considered the hypoallergetic..you may have to do some creativity on

taking more than one pill, cutting a pill etc to achieve the dose

the doc wants you on..

Just my opinion and not a medical opinion( had to throw that

in) ..synthetic T4 would be the first choice and try not to worry

about Armour or Cytomel( T3) until you bring your T4 up and find out

if you have a conversion issue..

Remember slow and steady wins the race, do one at a time..so if you

are adjusting T4 do not start or adjust T3, and if you are adjusting

T3 do not change T4 dose..

Best of luck with your doctor and keep us updated..

Lynn... welcome back.... You just made my day.... As you catch up with posts here for the last 16 hours you'll see why... I'm still working on my response to it.. but that will be in another post it's getting to be a long one... I'm checking new mail to take a break from it! hehehehe

How wonderful to hear why he'd not gotten back to you this last week.. the last post that I got from you had you still wondering what he was up to.. hearing that he had been on a trip and took the book along.. to be that interested... to want to read it... that's awesome!!!

I had a crappy weekend... I'll catch up with you off list....

As far as the synthetics...

They all have the same hormone in them.. the differences between the meds is the tableting agents that are used in the different brands. The allergic reactions that some have seem to be tied in to the dyes used in the synthetic T4s that are used for color coding dosages. The white ones are the dye-free ones, the ones most likely to not cause an allergic reaction.

I've attached a .jpg that has the dose color codes on it for Synthroid, the generics made in the US use the same color code. If it doesn't come through with the message anyone that wants a copy, give me a holler and I'll send it to you directly. I should really type them out one of these days!!!

Eltroxin, 100 mcg tabs are white... I'm not sure of the other dose sizes that it comes in... it's produced over seas.

Synthroid is the 'name brand' and most widely distributed.. there are about a half dozen 'generic brands' that I can think of... from Levothroid, to Levoxyl, to Levothyroxine, to Eltroxin... etc....

Just keep in mind that if you switch brands, because of the tableting agents and how different bodies respond to different ingredients that the absorption rate, how much of the actual hormone your body has access to, can differ... so changing a brand, even if on the same dose, means retesting labs to see how your body is doing.

Ideally you'll be started on a small dose... usually 25 or 50 mcg and then go back in 4 to 6 weeks for labs to see how your body is responding..... Some of this you already know... so I'll stop with that.

Nice to see you back.. as in things are going better.... As much as I like seeing everyone here... it's sad that we are in a position to have come here in the first place... Sorry... I'm reverting back to the other post I'm working on....

Hi Kats3boys

That's all good info. I needed that. Now I have to scribble that down

among my notes so I don't forget it. I'm brilliant for the first few

minutes I learn something - but then I forget it all .. hopefully that

will be cured soon!

:)

Hey there, Topper! Good to be back. Thank you very much.

I only saw a little of the stuff going on - I'm really sorry to see

it. I hope you can try to not take it personally. That sort of thing

would hurt my feelings for weeks. I'll have to read back and see how

it all began. I'm a little confused right now.

Write offlist anytime about the weekend etc. I'm happy to listen. God

knows you listened to me about everything under the sun already.

Now - that synthetic picture - I'm doing a holler .. please send me

offlist ? I'm only reading on the yahoo page and of course the

attachments aren't there. I'm glad you explained that because I

wasn't aware that there were so many choices and options among all the

various named synthetics. And I " ll make sure once he stabilizes me on

one not to swap around to different name brands. I hope he starts me

out on a very tiny dosage - I'm always so sensitive to meds that even

the tiniest dose usually affects me like a gigantic dose for normal

people.

Thanks so much. Good to be back :) And remember, don't let stuff from

here get you down. I personally get my feelings hurt very easily from

criticism whether it is constructive or whether it is malicious ...

and another friend wrote me and had her feelings hurt too because

someone didn't have the foresight to be a little kind in writing to

her. We all need to remember that we have easily bruised feelings.

We're a sensitive group by nature - and while we all may get a little

wired and wacked out from not feeling good - we have to ... HAVE TO ..

put on the kid gloves when we're responding to other people in a

message group. God forbid anything we say be the thing to push someone

over the edge in their sadness and depression.

Anyway - happy to see you all :)

Hugs,

-Lynn

It did hit me hard... I started the 'why do I still keep doing it' conversation with myself again....

I'm taking some time tonight to be less 'serious' I'll catch up with our emails then... I have a few more that I have to catch up off list too....sigh... I still need to be twins to get everything done!!! hehehehehe

I wrote a LONG post with a bunch of stuff that came to mind today... that helped a lot.. let me look inside myself a bit... remembered more about why I'm here... It should be posted by now.... I hope no one decides to shoot me.... see? I'm depressed and paranoid today.... sigh..

We do get bad days.. heck.. EVERY ONE gets a bad day now and then... I just think they come a little easier for those of us not in perfect health and sometimes stuff cuts really deep.... I try to keep that in mind.. that's why it took me so long to respond to what was going on... I needed time to run things through my mind and get passed the initial reaction to come out fighting.... wouldn't have done any good for me, or anyone else, to pitch a fit and get either defensive or aggressive...

In the little fantasy world that I live in I just honestly believe that we're all in this together and it's the working together that gives us the power to conquer... maybe we won't all WIN the battle... but I'd sure like to see fewer of us lose.... by lose I mean spending more time on the couch than doing things.... Or saying 'no' when friends call and invite you to join them....

Now I'm getting preachy... time to shush.. hehehehehe.. left the soap box in the corner... so it wasn't too bad! hehehehe

I'll send that JPG with the codes on it a bit later... Pop just got home and will be using the phone... I'm just gonna try to shoot this out quick! hehehe

Hey there, Topper! Good to be back. Thank you very much. I only saw a little of the stuff going on - I'm really sorry to seeit. I hope you can try to not take it personally. That sort of thingwould hurt my feelings for weeks. I'll have to read back and see howit all began. I'm a little confused right now. Write offlist anytime about the weekend etc. I'm happy to listen. Godknows you listened to me about everything under the sun already. Now - that synthetic picture - I'm doing a holler .. please send meofflist ? I'm only reading on the yahoo page and of course theattachments aren't there. I'm glad you explained that because Iwasn't aware that there were so many choices and options among all thevarious named synthetics. And I"ll make sure once he stabilizes me onone not to swap around to different name brands. I hope he starts meout on a very tiny dosage - I'm always so sensitive to meds that eventhe tiniest dose usually affects me like a gigantic dose for normalpeople. Thanks so much. Good to be back :) And remember, don't let stuff fromhere get you down. I personally get my feelings hurt very easily fromcriticism whether it is constructive or whether it is malicious ...and another friend wrote me and had her feelings hurt too becausesomeone didn't have the foresight to be a little kind in writing toher. We all need to remember that we have easily bruised feelings. We're a sensitive group by nature - and while we all may get a littlewired and wacked out from not feeling good - we have to ... HAVE TO ..put on the kid gloves when we're responding to other people in amessage group. God forbid anything we say be the thing to push someoneover the edge in their sadness and depression. Anyway - happy to see you all :) Hugs, -Lynn

Hi Sue!

Thanks for the welcome. It is great to see you here.

That's one of my main worries in discussion groups - that people

don't realize how much their message may affect someone. Maybe we do

it in real life too. Take conscious effort but it is worth it.

Hugs!

-Lynn
