Guest guest
I had varicose veins in each pregnancy - the right leg was always worse. In my fourth pregnancy, they were a few unsightly blue lumps. I tried to wear support tights, but these were also uncomfortable, and never went up far enough. So I just made sure that I didn't ever stand up if there was a chair available, and if I had to stand, I always did little exercises with my feet to keep the blood moving. I'd also lie down if I had the chance (v. tired anyway), or sit down with my feet up. Fortunately, my legs were always well recovered in the morning, and they didn't get much worse through pregnancy. And as soon as the baby was out, the varicose veins gave me no more trouble (I have a little bit of discolouration on the skin). I've never been tempted to have them stripped, as they seem only to be a problem associated with pregnancy for me. I've heard that you have to have completed your family before having surgery. I have a friend who developed VV during her twin pregnancy. About 8 years later she decided to have them stripped, and she was very pleased with the results. She had it done privately by 'the best vein surgeon in the country', she said. Joyce Varicose veins... (Aargh, still can't get mails through normally so here's another one through the web site...) Dreaded topic I know, but just wondered if anyone else suffers from these... I have been for an ultrasound, and have an appointment with the consultant to discuss the results tomorrow. (I got a few tiny VVs with DD, but DS changed all that - after just 4 weeks of pregnancy I had a whole chain creeping up the back of my right leg and it didn't get any better sitting on office chairs all day and with a toddler on my lap the rest of the time.) Anyway would be good to know if anyone else have any good or bad experiences with living with, ignoring, suffering from VVs... or indeed surgery (yuk!). Mail me offline if you prefer - kbholm@... Guest guest
No experience myself but my good friend has had both her legs done over the past few months. They did one leg at a time. The veins were stripped out, in her case, but I believe there are other methods. She had no problems at all. She was supposed to stay overnight but as she has two young children they let her come home the same day. She had some bruising and tenderness for a week or two and had to put her feet up when ever possible. She was told not to drive for three weeks but her legs improved so much she forgot and drove a couple of hundred miles one weekend! Guest guest
Don't know about the leg sort but I had a horrible collection of vulval ones the last 2 pg's. Actually my step-dad has had his (leg) ones both stripped and injected and said both were incredibly painful, the injections didn't work for him.
