TSH in general is not a good gauge, but one doc who deals primarily with thyroid patients sets a cutoff of 1.0 for " normal " TSH. Meaning he has found hypothyroid patients with a TSH as low as yours. Your FT4 could be higher, but really, if I could only afford and have to pick ONE test, I would want FT3. So you can either call your doc back and try to cajole them into getting the FT3, or you can do your own saliva labs. If your insurance is paying, I don't see why they care. You can do the 'ol " c'mon, humor me, it's just one test, and I'm really curious. I've got a bet with some people that it's below 300 and I'd really like to see who's right. " You gotta be creative when dealing with docs. Barb
Guest guest
oh,,Im so pissed right now. before they gave me the test I insisted to the nurse that I needed free t3. anyway,,according to her the doc turned it down. the company I work for no longer pays for my insurance so I had to pay out of pocket so I pretty much wasted over $200. he also didnt mention to me that my bad cholesterol (LDL) was high. anyway,,Ive made up my mind that Im just going to order the saliva tests from the canary club and just self treat according to the results. Im finished with docs. I'll end up broke by the time I find one who's competent enough to get me feeling better. sorry for the rants but Im really frustrated here > > > > tsh 1.55 uIU/ml(.34-5.60) > > > > t4 free 0.86 ng/dl ( .58-1.64) > > > > I had asked for my free t3 to also be tested but according to the > > nurse my doc said " its not useful " and " I shouldnt be reading into > > things on the internet " anyway,,from whatmy other results does it > > look like I may be hypo? > > > And you wonder why we all write in tests on our lab orders! Guest guest
> he also didnt mention to me that my bad cholesterol (LDL) was high. It's not that high, and you know that high cholesterol is a symptom of low thyroid function, right? Meaning, once you get thyroid treated, it will come down naturally. Whatever you do, do NOT take statin drugs ever. The side effects can cripple you. Barb

You might gain enough information on which to judge if the treatment you are getting is even close to appropriate or adequate. God forbid! All joking aside if all of us who have any occasion to use the health care system would do our homework, one of two things would happen--the standard of care and physician/patient interaction would either get a whole lot better, or it would go out of business. sol
Guest guest
the only drug I'd like to get is armour. thats if the saliva tests Im going to order further indicate a thyroid problem. do you think I'll have any problem with reliable online sources for armour? thats my only worry about self treatment. Im going to be careful with dosages and such but dont wanna have to worry about not being able to get the drug. thanks for all replies. I was able to talk my doc into prescribing Armour for my husband with a 1.47 TSH, because his FT3 was 249. Still increasing his Isocort though, so haven't started the Armour and don't have a success story to tell. Good luck! Barb

I dont know what would cause me to have such high blood sugar. can low thyroid or adrenals contribute to this? Im just trying to tie things in here. my doc seems unable to even interpret a lab report so Im hoping for some answers here. seems like half of ya'll know more than these docs. would appreicate any thoughts. thanks
