Guest guest
Hi Idit- I use Ease Distributers at for ordering shoes and the adjustable bar. They are located in central California and their number is . You have to leave a message and they will call you back. I'm not sure if they ship international or not but they ship within the US. The shoes cost $66.95 plus shipping from them. The bar is close to $60 too. If you can find a way to purchase all the web I would propably just do that route though. I've never heard/seen a blue bar. I'm just aware of the gold (non adjustable) and red (adjustable)ones. The red adjustable bar is the best because you can adjust it yourself and it saves lots of money down the road. Guest guest
Hello, Idit, Here is some info on the FAB components, provided by Hall, an orthotist in Iowa. I believe the company that makes the bar is called Fillauer. If you need more information I bet she would be willing to talk to you; her contact info is included: http://pages.ivillage.com/ponseti_links/id11.html Here, too, is a site in the UK which offers the adjustable bar and seems to ship internationally: http://www.ketteringsurgical.com/foot/marden/ajp.htm We have had the same red adjustable bar since our child first got her brace at 6 months. She is now 3 1/2 years old, and it has been adjusted wider as she has grown. We've gone through 4 pairs of shoes, sizes 1, 3, 5 and now 7, but still the same bar.. Good luck, and > > Hello dear parents. > This forum helped me so much. I have a 5-month-old son with > bilateral clubfeet. I learned here about the New Markel products and > I have 3 questions: > 1. Guest guest
Hi I just thought that I would add the fact that I have a gold adjustable bar. It is made by Markell it is just one bar but is notched at the end and this slides in brackets on the shoes. It looks very similar to the unadjustable ones but has overhang beyond the nuts on the bottom of the shoes. There is a pic of it in the photo section under . It goes from 10 to 14 inches and it seems to be working really well. I like it because I can easily take his shoes off the bar to put them on. I also like the fact that I don't have to deal with those little black clamps on the red bar. Just thought I would add another option. -Ruth Mum to born March 31, 2003. Guest guest
Dear and , Thank you for you response. I have contacted the Markel company and: ketteringsurgical.com/ and got answers. Can you please write if your kid has the small or large bar? I think to buy the large one- 9 " -15 " . It is so hard to do it without actually see it. Thanks again idit > > > > Hello dear parents. > > This forum helped me so much. I have a 5-month-old son with > > bilateral clubfeet. Guest guest
Hi My son is 9 and a half months and weighs about 23lb. He also has the gold bar that slots into the shoes which is great as you can put regular trousers on and just undo the bolt and release the bar if need be. He has the 14 " bar which is set on 11 " so has an overhang on either side. I think he will be in the this bar for a long time to come!!! Good luck Rach, Steve and Connor -- Questions about the new Red bar and > where to > > >find it > > >Date: Wed, 28 Jan 2004 11:14:11 -0000 > > > > > > > > >Hello dear parents. > > >This forum helped me so much. Guest guest
Hi There I don't think that the overhang is dangerous. With my son who is 10 months, with the bar set at 12 inches (bolt to bolt, not heel to heel, he is about 8 inches or shoulder width heel to heel)the overhang past the edge of the shoes is only about 1/2 to 1 inch on each side (see picture). I have never had any problems with it, he does occasionally snag a blanket when I pick him up but that is certainly nothing to worry about. I have been very happy with this bar and recommend it totally, of course I have no experience with any other type but this one seems to work just fine and if it is a little bit cheaper then that sounds good to me! Hope this helps -Ruth > > > > Hi Idit- > > > > > > > > I use Ease Distributers at for ordering shoes and > > the > > > > adjustable bar. Guest guest
Hi There isn't that much overhang that you can see as the shoe covers most of it because of the angle. It certainly hasn't bothered us and I know there is room to grow. It's harder to get him in the foot muff in the pushchair but can still do it, otherwise haven't noticed any difference. Also he sleeps on his side so his leg is in the air and this hasn't made any difference either Rach -- Questions about the new Red bar > and > > where to > > > >find it > > > >Date: Wed, 28 Jan 2004 11:14:11 -0000 > > > > > > > > > > > >Hello dear parents. > > > >This forum helped me so much. Guest guest
Hi idit! I'm more of a lurker here on this board, but I wanted to let you know my experience with this type of bar. My son started out in the bar with the overhang. Our local dr. said we were supposed to keep it on 24 hrs. a day until he started walking (we found out later this was ridiculous), which meant he had it on when he was rolling and crawling. The only real problem we had with it was that he scratched a lot of paint off our walls with it. He would roll over to the wall as fast as he could and he would just move his legs up and down. Personally, I think he liked the sound of it, because just as soon as we moved him to the middle of the floor, he would beat it over to the wall again. I am so thankful that we were able to see Dr. Ponseti and get the red bar. Our local dr. was actually pretty impressed with the red bar-he called the local prosthetic lab to see if they would switch to the red bar. (I know they were going to contact people in Iowa City for more info.) - (son Jaren 4/18/02 unilateral clubfoot) > Thanks, > > Can I ask if the so overhang bar on either side can be dangerus? > > thanks > > idit >
Guest guest
I imagine it's mostly dangerous to the parents lol I think the overhang would drive me nuts personally. But then again I haven't tried it. I don't get why they can't come up with an adjustable bar that's bent properly and has nuts that can be undone. Is this physically impossible or what? Guest guest
I am sorry I came in at the end of this conversation. Did Dr. Herzenberg see you recently in Isreal? He is our doctor and I know he was just out of town for two weeks. I wondered if he was there with you. We have the red bar and love it. We used to have the gold one and it was not as good at all. Guest guest
how much ($) is the red bar? Is there ANY way to make it easy to get the shoes off? I don't take them off much anymore but when I want to, I want to do it easily. Does anyone think any modifications could be made to it? And it comes pre-bent to 15 degrees? Guest guest
Kori, I don't think it comes pre-bent...when Dr. Pirani saw Owen's bar, the first thing he did was try to wrap around his knee in an effort to bend it (LOL)...in the end, he gave it to the orthotist and asked her to adjust it to the correct degree of dorsiflexion. As far as making it easy to take the shoes off the bar...I can't really offer much there as we never had to do it that way. I guess we were among the lucky ones who didn't really have an adjustment phase. Owen seemed to take to the DBB right away without any problems. Guest guest
Kori, Daiga and Owen can you please explain what do you mean by: comes pre-bent to 15 degrees? what part? Sorry I don't get it. Do you mean the center of the bar? Or the dorsiflexion- the plate where the shoes go? I want to understand because I will have to do it myself, or at least I need to know how it should be. And one more please: Dose the bar curves or is it strait? thank you so much Idit > > > > > > > > Hi Idit- > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I use Ease Distributers at for ordering > shoes > > > and > > > > > > the > > > > > > > > adjustable bar. Guest guest
Idit, I've been meaning to post about this. Glad you brought it up. I had posted before that the first time we saw Dr. Herzenberg in Baltimore he bent Zoe's straight, non-adjustable bar himself. The other day when I took off the car seat strap covers to wash them, I noticed that the bend was closer to her clubfoot, not in the middle as I had previously assumed. Thought that was interesting... Hope this helps. Guest guest
Joanne, Our bars are bent in two spots. About 4 " from the bolt hole on each side. I think some are bending them once in the middle, and some are bending in two spots. I've seen pictures of the red bar and it looks like it's curved instead of bent. I don't know enough about the red bar to say if this is normal or not. Whatever the case, I think as long as it's bent to 15 degrees dorsiflexion it's ok. Bending the bar in two places seems to give baby something a little more solid to stand on than if it's bent in the middle. I wonder if your bar was just bent closer to the CF just because they didn't make sure to bend it in the middle? Something else I've learned recently... and I feel a little stupid for not figuring it out myself... is that her normal foot doesn't need the 15 degrees of dorsiflexion so theoretically her bar should only be bent on one side. Interesting huh? Kori At 05:46 PM 1/31/04, you wrote: >Idit, > >I've been meaning to post about this. Glad you brought it up. Guest guest
Hello dears, Thank you all. I' have been looking for a strait bar all day now. I thought It would be easier for him to stand and walk with a strait bar. I'm so confused. Also, I thought Oshri has " clicks " in his leg because the shoes are not parallel to the floor. And now I see it shouldn't be strait. I will write Dr. Ponseti and let you all now what is his answer. I don't know how I can bend the bar my self. Kori has a good point about bending it in two spots... well I'll see Thank you so so much idit > >Idit, > > > >I've been meaning to post about this. Glad you brought it up. Guest guest
Kori, can you ask your dr. about the normal foot? Dose it need to be in a position? I already wrote Dr. Ponseti about the bar in general and I forgot to ask him that (silly me!). sorry idit > >Idit, > > > >I've been meaning to post about this. Glad you brought it up. Guest guest
Idit, I wanted to say ... my son has unilateral cf, and discoounting the small changes Dr Ponseti did to accomodate the type of cf he did, this is what his bar is like - adjustable red Fillauer (sp?) bar, slightly bent on either end, non-cf at 20 degrees (this is something fairly new they are doing, alot of doctors still use 40 degrees for non cf, either way is fine) and cf at 70 degrees. Dr Ponseti himself adjusted Kai's bar. In Kai's case, the cf is actually set at 50 degrees, but that has to do with his personal needs. Everything else I described is exactly as told to me by Dr Ponseti.
