worm tragedy

(Whilst I am conforming to chickpea eating, clog wearing

stereotype...probably in atonement for my longest ever continuous

time using disposable nappies last week...)

I have had a bereavement :-( My lovely worms! I went out to say hello

to them (not been feeding them for a while as they were a bit

overloaded) and they are dead! Still lots of tigers there but, ugh,

falling to bits. It has all got too wet and possibly too cold. It has

happened once before and I did get going again, but this worm bin is

pretty knackered now - the lid is smashed in (it is a converted bin

from when Coventry went wheely - I put the tap in myself in a rare

fit of half competence)

Anyway, I was thinking it would be easier to manage a worm-boosted

ordinary composting bin now that my mothering attentions are somewhat

divided (and the conventional composting bins that were supposed to

be a stop gap over 10 years ago have collapsed too and are mega

neglected). I've been surfing today, but the solid twin wooden bins I

have seen are pretty expensive. Anyone got any good tips on where to

find one cheaper. Self-build is out - DH has his mind on building a

replica Center Parcs adventure playground and thinks we have the most

expensive compost heaps in existence (fed on the finest organic veg I

never got round to using...)

Not feeling the world's greatest maternal figure right now - what

with the drowned worms, the cats who are refusing to eat (except for

stolen Parmesan) and are toileting in inappropriate places. The

fruits of my womb are much the same as the cats (though they like

what got dropped on the floor during a previous day's meal)!
