Interesting - I was told by the doctors in Iowa that bare foot was better than

anything because it would work more muscles in the feet and help strengthen and

hold the correction. Hmmmm - and yes, here I am on New Year's Eve too! haha

Re: Robeez Shoes

Kori,

How lame am I that I'm responding to your post on New Year's Eve? (at

9:00 p.m.)Anyway...when I asked Dr. Ponseti about this, he said the

best is high top shoes because they support the ankles, which are

weak in any first time walker, but more so for clubfoot children. We

went out and purchased Stride Rites (high tops) - they weren't the

cutest, but that really doesn't matter to us, seeing as we want the

best for Zach's tootsie. One thing I did want to mention, is that I

didn't feel any sense of urgency or major seriousness regarding

wearing sturdy, high top shoes. I seem to remember in a casual

conversation with Dr. P. before Zach was even walking him saying any

shoe will do, that it doesn't have to be anything special...but when

he first starts to walk high tops are best, but not absolutely

necessary. So, finally, in (sort of) answer to your question, I

would think when first walking, you would want a sturdy shoe (just

like anyone else) and then once sturdy and a " pro " any shoe would

do.

Hope that helps!!!

Holly :)

OK, that eases my mind a little with these shoes because I really, really

like them and would like to get her a couple more pairs as she gets

older. Did you check them out? They are the big rage here in the Pacific

NW and oh so cute! They're mostly like little soft leather moccasins and

they don't fall off her feet at all.

This means, that I can feel comfortable getting her these and letting her

wear them as appropriate and let her wear her brother's stride rites that

they never wore much if she needs sturdy shoes. I also like the *mary

jane* style girls shoes and of course she'll wear those with dresses as

appropriate. Those have a very solid sole though and while she can cruise

well enough with them around the house she's very comfortable in her new

Robeez.

I dont' know how the general trend with shoe size runs, but with my oldest (he

had the tendon transfer surgery), I have to buy his shoes a size or two too

large in order to accomodate his feet. They are very short in length, wide and

he has a very high instep. They really seem all in all to be too small for his

body and he has difficulty runing and with balnce..

I'm sorry, I guess I didn't explain myself well enough. Barefoot IS

better and that's what I was told too. When you do decide to

purchase shoes for your little one, then it doesn't really matter

what type you choose. Hightops being better for any beginning

walker, but once they are steady - any brand goes.

Sorry for the misunderstanding!!

Glad to see another lame-o on the boards on New Years Eve :) And

here I am AGAIN on New Years Day - everyone's napping, 'cept me, I

have no clue how to relax!!!!

Great Bend Kansas - I spent a lot of years in the Sterling/Lyons area back in

the 80's. I dont' suppose the land scape has changed much around there.

's feet sound like the same shape as 's, often shoes are nt deep

enough for him, either.

I can't speak for children, but has to buy shoes that are a couple

sizes to big. She underwent multiple surgeries on each foot to fix her

clubfeet. Her feet are very thick and wide, with short, curled toes. Most

shoes don't come deep enough through the tongue area. She buys a lot of

men's shoes, groaning every time that she has to pass up cute womens'

styles because they just aren't wide enough. We're hoping for better

results with Leah's feet.

Happy New Year!!!
