Guest guest
Not here, Jordan looked like he was 3 when he was 1.......and looked like he was 5 when he was 2.....He's 5, and finally looks his age. ~k [ ] Is it just me? Hey All, I haven't posted in awhile. But after speaking with someone else on this list, she suggested I post my thought/question to all of you. Is it just me, or does everyone else see a differnce in there children, when they were very little. Example: When your infant was maybe 4-5 mths old, you looked at them and saw a 2 month old, at 10mths, you saw a 4mth old, and so on. I don't mean in size or weight. Iam talking facial features, or expressions. Or even lack of. Now that Abby is 3. I still see someone who is maybe 2 1/2 Besides the fact that she isn't verbal like other 3yo, she still has that appearence of a younger child. Again, is it just me???? Guest guest
Dawn, It's funny that you bring this up...Just today I was going through old pictures of Chase ( he will be 4 on the 27th) when he was younger, and saying to myself " why did I not see it then, " meaning the hypotonia and other subtle signs that something was wrong. It's so apparent now looking back. And yes, I still think of Chase being alot younger than he is, so NO it's not just you:-) If it wasn't for his height and thick hair, he looks like a two in a half year old instead of almost four. His younger brother, by 14mo, is the same size and out weighs chase by a couple of pounds. People always ask me if they are twins. Kris [ ] Is it just me? > Hey All, > I haven't posted in awhile. Guest guest
We were having this conversation earlier tonight, as the IU did Jordan's evaluation, and again, either they are total idiots or they must be talking about someone elses child. Jordan fooled everyone for a long time. He did everything on time, if not early, except speak. Sat, rolled, walked (never did crawl, but we now know that's the motor planning thing) earlier than most. It wasn't until he was around 3 that it became evident that something was just not right. He was the first to walk in his " baby gym " , the first to do the obstacle course....but he could never " jump " (i'm remembering all these things now, and putting it all together). Even at those young ages, the sensory things were not apparent at all, except the hat thing which was not a big deal because none of my kids liked or like hats....I just chalked that up to DNA..... today at 5, to look at him, he doesn't look in any way different. He runs, jumps, and plays like any other 5 year old. But when he speaks, the obvious becomes VERY obvious. <sigh> ~k Jenna wrote: Hi, Dawn: I was just having the same discussion with my husband last nite no this topic. My son Jake just turned 2. Yesterday I took him to the park. He was on the swing, right next to him was a little girl, her mom told me she is 25 months old. But when I look at the two of them right next to each other, despite the fact the Jake is bigger than the little girl in hight and weight, his facial expressions, the way he moves his hands, even his facial features, just his whole demeaner looks so much less mature than that girl. Jake is very delayed in all areas, I think in his case, his cognitive level is shown through not only the way he behaves, but also very much so in the way he looks. It is very evident. Now only if he is tiny in size, maybe it wouldn't be so bad.... but he is such a big boy in size..... So what can I say... Jenna
Guest guest
Hi Dawn:) No, it's not just you. Aidan looks a lot younger than he is-he is a peanut height & weight but he also looks so " baby " still. He's going to be 3 in October & most people think he's 18 months or just 2. When I watch a lot of what he does I don't see an almost 3yr old I see a 2yr old, occasionally now I'm seeing him act like an almost 3yr old in some areas. When he was an infant it was really obvious. > Hey All, > I haven't posted in awhile. Guest guest
Hi Dawn- I agree totally. I was just remarking the other day that my 2 1/2 year old daughter, although perfectly average in height and weight, looks to be about a a year younger than she is. Other parents of children in our playgroup comment on this all the time. -Beth
Guest guest
Ditto for me - my son always looked older. Weighed 23# at 4 mos and now is 55 at nearly 6. He's constantly taken for substantially older than he is. Marina
Guest guest
Marina, WOW is all I can say. Abby just turned 3 June 1st. She just barely weighs 35pounds. LOL I wouldn't look at her and say she is " tiny " Although everyone else says she is petite. She seems to be average in height and weight to me. It's just that when I look at her face, or her body movements, her overall appereance she " looks " younger. And sometimes acts younger then her actual chronological age. She is also now going through the " terrible-twos " stage. Doing everything from climbing, getting into things, becoming more physically aggressive and throwing temper tantrums. I think this will be my next topic in a new post soon. LOL. take care, Dawn > Ditto for me - my son always looked older. Weighed 23# at 4 mos and > now is 55 at nearly 6.
