Guest guest
I just had to respond to the " oregon doesnt get snow " part. Most of the country has a huge misperception of Washington/Oregon. There is a huge mountain range that runs down the middle causing the west side of both states to be rain forests and the east side to be high desert. Being high desert and caught between 2 mountain ranges, the east side of both Washington and Oregon usually enjoy huge amounts of snow in the winter, while the west side usually had rain with occasional light dustings. This year, it is a bit different, and Portland and Seattle have seen more snow that we have here in Yakima! Today is the first time we have gotten more than an inch ... and FINALLY it is snowing like a blizzard! YAY! lol (I love the snow) Angel Re: Kind of an OT question - Kori, Thanks for your response. I'm very much a keepsake person, and I would like to make a snazzy scrapbook of sorts for Zach's...ummm, probably future wife, seeing as my husband is much less a keepsake person, and chances are being a boy Zach will be much the same way. Anyway, it's all tucked neatly away in a box...email correspondences, articles, pictures, etc. Someday I'll think of a clever way to put it all together. Gosh, I didn't realize that Oregon rarely gets snow?! Here in MI we usually get our fill of it, but this has been an unusually " dry " winter. I love and miss the snow...send some our way please! Tubing sounds like such fun...maybe you'll get out there and join them~ Thanks again for your thoughts! Guest guest
Yeah, Oregon and WA (and actually CA for that matter) have quite a varied geography that gives us lots of different kinds of weather to have pretty much within 3-4 hours of home. I live in the valley, on the immediate west side of the Cascades. Makes the marine air roll around between the coast range and the Cascades (Mt. Bachelor, Mt. Hood, Mt, St. Helens, Mt. Ranier, Mt. Shasta - in CA, etc.) and we get mostly rain as far as precipitation. It's rarely cold enough to turn that rain into snow and if it is it seems like it's dry then. This is a big deal for us, it's still snowing and getting colder as the night wears on. They're even talking about more snow in a few days. And it's scary... we're a big attraction for people from CA to migrate and settle in (and other dry sunny places) and people really don't know how to drive in this stuff. Heck, if you got your drivers license or moved here in the past 10 years you've only seen snow in the city perhaps 5 times total. I wish I could remind everyone here that 4 wheel drive does NOT mean 4 wheel stop! lol... Kori Native... means I've got web feet :~} At 02:57 PM 1/1/04, you wrote: >Angel, >Thanks for the geographical weather info...LOL, seriously, it's funny >having never been to a certain place, you still do think you have a >general idea of what it's like there, and obviously I had no idea >about " typical " Oregon weather!!! > >Holly >Zachary 7/27/02 > > > > > >Hi Everyone, > > > >I asked this, but was wondering what you all thought.
