Wow,

I just googled ADRENASTIM and am very impressed with its ingredients. They've

even got bach flower essences in there. I've had adverse reactions to taking

both DHEA and pregnenolone directly orally so I wonder if doing it this way and

bypassing the liver if I could tolerate them better. It looks like a great

product, but in your case, your stage 5 might require you to get on

hydrocortisone (stronger than Isocort) in order to tolerate your thyroid

hormone. Val will probably suggest this when she comes along.

Pregnenolone and dhea

Hi I am new to the group and just wanted to know if anyone out there

experienced lumbar spinal discomfort while taking pregnenolone and

dhea. I am taking adrenstim which is a lotion that you rub in your

body that contains these ingredients. My doc just started me on this

because I've already been on isocort but can't seem to raise my

thyroid meds because adrenals keep crashing. Have been on 1/2 grain

for about a month and everytime I think my adrenals are feelin great

I try that other 1/2 grain and experience a major crash (tired,

depressed). So my doc thought if we tried adrenstim in addition to

isocort mabye that would do the trick so I can raise my

naturethroid. Adrenstim makes me feel alert, positive, improves

memory, less tendency to get depressed-However my lumbar spine right

where the low back meets the sacrum is so unusually tight (right

around kidney/ adrenal) and at night my calves feel slightly cramped.

I really wasn't low in DHEA but am stage 5 adrenal fatigue. Mabye the

Dhea is to much although this cream is only supposed to deliver small

amounts and it's the pregnenolone I think is helping. Sometimes I

really think having the autoimmune component makes this so tricky

because my body is so sensitive to everything b/c hashi's and most

likely other autoimmune stuff going on in my body. Really scared to

take Cortef I'm only 29 and am hoping I can restore some of this.

Balancing the endocrine is like walking a tight rope and I just pray

for the day I can feel some sense of balance instead of this yo-

yoing. Any comments or suggestion or stories would be greatly

appreciated. THANKS :)

There are two things you could do here. One is to raise by only 1/4

grain at a time, since the pills do come that small. The other

question is, have you charted your temperatures? How and

why to graph your temps are explained at

<http://www.drrind.com/tempgraph.asp>

Once they level out and stop fluctuating (the daily averages are no

more than .2 degrees difference from day to day for 3-4 days), your

adrenals are strong enough start thyroid. Maybe you're trying to raise

while they're still too weak.

You said you were on Isocort, but did you have cortisol saliva labs

run? How bad were they? You could post the lab values and their

ranges for comment. Maybe you need more Isocort, or need to move to

Cortef.

> I really wasn't low in DHEA but am stage 5 adrenal fatigue.

I'm not really familiar with DHEA, but do know you should only

supplement it if low in it, and to start at only 5 mg.

Pregnenolone really seemed to screw up my hormones. I was probably taking

too much. I think it will be a few more months before I get my hormones

stabilized. I found that DHEA was causing more estrogen dominance too so I

have to cut back. Not sure in your case if they both will make you worse or

better but keep your doses low. I was very, very low in DHEA and really

don't recommend it if you are not low as it can be very potent. I am stage 7

fatigue, by the way.

You could have low magnesium or sodium that causes that pain. I get that

every so often and from experimenting it seems to be either magnesium or

sodium related or both.

It sounds like you may need hydrocortisone. Isocort only contains 2mg

of HC per pellet. How my isocort are you using? You may need a total

of 20mg of hc a day. Also have you tried ashwaghanda or licorice in

addition? B vites too and digestive enzymes are important to adrenals.

I'm only 35...it doesn't get eaiser. If you have a doc who will give

you HC and is giving you natural thyroid..go for it or you'll be my

age with the same problems still.

Also take magnesium for those leg cramps.

The back pain thing...I'm not sure on that.

To Jada,

http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1281637

This is an article on PubMed Central I found entitled " Endocrine evaluation

for muscle pain " .

I also have the muscle pain in my left calf and mine is not related to a

mineral deficiency. I have a bad cold right now and have not increased my

HC cream and have noticed the leg pain again which must mean my cortisol is

low (and of course my thyroid because I'm not even taking thyroid again

until my temps stabilize)

The Drs I have mentioned this to sorta ignored me - had no clue.

I've been using the adrenastim for 3 days now and honestly my mind

feels so alert, colors are brighter and feel much less depressed -

while I don't know if I personally should stay on this for more than

a couple of weeks b/c my dhea was fine the doc just has me doing it

to see if we can boost adrenals to increase dosage of thyroid med

instead of cortef. If you are in need of dhea I would give this a

shot the ingredients are wonderful (love this apex co.) and it really

has given me a boost that i haven't felt from isocort, glandulars,

vit c, raw diet......

Hey would you mind posting your labs?

I was tested for AF and hypothyroidism in April at the Mercola

Wellness Center. I had low cortisol for all 4 ranges, and my DHEA was

sky-high. At the time, the only things they prescribed for me were

Apex Adrenastim, Adrenacalm, and Thyroxal.

However, I had a really really weird reaction to Adrenastim and

Adrenacalm. They messed with my sleep patterns, and although the

Adrenastim gave me energy, it felt weird, like a stimulant. Maybe I

shouldn't have used it because my DHEA was already sky-high (tested 25

when the range was 3-10).

I'm wondering because I have 3 tubs of Adrenastim and Adrenacalm that

I haven't used, because of my reaction. Instead of wasting them, I'm

wondering if maybe they will help me as my healing progresses.

Hi Jung - I was tested there too and found to be Stage 7 AF(according

to Diagnos Tech) and given Adrenacalm and Adaptocrine

and THYRO-CNV. I took one pill of each one day and felt like I was on

an acid trip. It was terrible! I think it was the THYRO-CNV that

gave me that reaction but I continued to take the Adaptocrine for a

month or so but still felt funny after taking it. I think I have

figured out that I don't do well with herbal supplements. I found

another doctor because that office was a little too wacky for me.

I'm on compounded HC now and feeling better. I have one jar of

adrenacalm and 2 bottles of Adaptocrine and THYRO-CNV that are unused

as well. Just thought I would share my bad experience with those

supplements.

After everything I've learned over the past couple months, I'm really

surprised that the Mercola Center doesn't prescribe Armour or HC. In

the binder they gave me at the intial appointment, it includes an

article that Dr. Mercola wrote himself about the benefits of Armour!

What frustrates me the most is that they gave me Thyroxal, a thyroid

glandular, without explaining the relationship between adrenals and

thyroid. I was found to be at stage 6, but I was able to lead a normal

life. After taking Thyroxal for a week, without knowing anything about

adrenal support, my adrenals crashed, and I am now on HC trying to get

back to square one.

I have a lot of respect for the work Mercola does in spreading

knowledge about alternative health, but I think they prescribe the

Apex supplements because they can make money on them. Whereas they

can't make money on something like Armour, which has to be prescribed.

I totally agree. I was lucky because my insurance covered my appts.

and testing but I still forked out a lot because they required you to

see all the different people in his office (nutritionist, EFT person,

the real Dr. and on and on). The Dr. I was seeing left Mercola's

office after a few months and I just decided to call it quits and

cancelled the rest of my appts. You never even get to see Dr. Mercola.

Their whole mantra about weaning you off of thyroid meds really got me

in trouble. I was feeling hyper and thinking I didn't need as much

thyroid medication but in reality my adrenals were crashing big time.

Oh well, live and learn, that's what life is all about. At least I was

able to get the adrenal testing done so I accomplished something. I'm

seeing Dr. Muth at Spring City Health Center in Waukesha WI now and I

highly recommend her. (www.springcityhealthcentre.com)
