Hi Elaine,

The rash I have is red, raised and INCREDIBLY itchy. It looks like the same as the pictures downloaded by many of the people in this group. The rash started the last week of my pregnancy on my stomach and seemed to match the PUPP description exactly (develops the last week of pregnancy and starts on the stomach, etc.). Within a week it spread from my stomach to my entire body (except my face). My gyno said it was the worse case of PUPP he had ever seen in 20 years and even made me show my rash to his daughter who is also a gyno (I felt like a specimen). When I had to have an emergency C-section (because I wasn't dilating and my water had broke) the anesthesiologist and nurse were shocked at the intensity of my rash. They put me on prednisone, benedryl and cortisone lotion after I gave birth, but the rash never went away. The rash is always there now, just at varying degrees. The usual places the rash seems to stick around the most is on my hips, buttocks, ankles, knees, back of thigh and the front upper arms (by my armpits). I used to get it on my stomach, but it hasn't been there for a while. I have heard of PUPP coming back during the 2nd pregnancy even though, you are only supposed to get it during the 1st pregnancy (but not that it never went away). The thought of getting pregnant again and having the rash get that bad again turns my stomach : ( I was looking on the internet to see if any other people with PUPP have had this problem when I came across this group. When the rash never went away, my dermatologist did a biopsy right in the middle of where the rash was the most intense and it came back as hives. But I am utterly confused now because my Allergist said it doesn't look like I have hives because hives usually move from place to place within 24 hours and does not stay in certain areas for weeks like mine does. I have been taking two 60mg of Allegra during the day and one Hydroxyzine at night. The Hydroxyzine seems to help the most and I used to take it during the day too, but I had to just stop, because it made me so groggy and I can't be that way when I have a daughter to take care of. I have also found that Lanacane cream (one that says it has Antibacterial agents) also seems to help. So....that is my story (sorry it is so long).

I'm sorry your daughter had to experience PUPP, but I am so glad for her that it went away. They say it is common, but I don't know anybody else personally who has had it. It is baffling to me!

It was nice hearing from you and if you have any suggestions "I'm all ears!" I will never quit looking for a cure!

Take care,

Miki
