wiggle her little foot out of the shoes before I could get them both on so we

gave up. Later I found out from Dr. Ponseti the reason was our local doctor

didn't correct her foot well enough with casting to be braced at a 75 degree

angle. After additional casting by Dr. Ponseti we tried the DBB again and after

the first 24 hours Katelyn was fine. Whe didn't have any trouble with blisters

or anything. She is 10 months now and looks for her DBB when it is nap time

just like it was her teddy bear. HaHa. I would check with the doctor, sorry,

I'm not sure if you see Dr. Ponseti, but if it is a doctor other than Dr.

Ponseti I would definately check into why the bar won't stay on. If Dr. Ponseti

is your doctor, I would wait a while calm down and try again. Maybe during a

nap. I found with my daughter (who sleeps sound) that her foot relaxed when

she was asleep and it would go in the shoe much easier. I was never able to get

the shoes on with her kicking and screaming. Also, I found it helps to put her

CF in first and fasten the strap, put her other foot in and fasten the strap,

then lace the shoes.

Hi

Our son is in day care mornings only and they take his shoes off at 11.30.

We have had no problems there so far. Connors shoes never came off though

although we have suffered infected blisters etc in the beginning. We now

have the new Markell shoes which are much kinder to his feet that is for

sure!!! Connor is 8.5 months and is now in the shoes 16-18 hours per day. Do

you think the shoes are too big?? Connor's first shoes were a 000 and we

drew around his toes so we could see if his foot had slipped. We felt these

first shoes were a bit big but his toes were visible with maybe half an inch

from the end. We also made another hole in the strap. Do you think her heel

is all the way down?? It must be a night mare to keep putting the shoes on

like that. I used to take Connors on and off to keep checking his poor heels

which was bad enough. Now they go on at 7pm at night and that is it till

the next day.

Good luck.

-- DBB shoes

We have been using the DBB shoes for almost three weeks. It is not

getting any better-in fact it is getting worse. The minute we get

the shoes on, they are off again. M is only 3 months old. I've put

the shoes on her three times in the last half hour. It would be

easier to hold her feet in position myself I think! The day care

will never be able to handle this! We are lacing tightly and using

gripper socks. Has anyone used duct tape??? Has anyone had their

child with DBB in day care?

Isn't it funny how different things work for different people. I have tried

fastening the strap first and it just dosn't work for me. I take the shoes off

the bar, open the laces as far as I can without removing them from the holes,

pull the tongue up and slip it on. Then I start tightening the laces and maybe

pull the strap over if it gets bunched up. When all laced up and tied, I

tighten the strap down. When I get both of her shoes on her, I attach the bar.

I always put it on her non-club foot first because it is stronger and then

attach it her club foot. Usually this whole procedure takes about 10 minutes or

two animal cookies.

Hi,

Rose got her DBB at three months and in day care. I told the day care people to

call me if she got her shoes off and I would come put them back on. But, they

just put them back on themselves. Because the bar and the shoes are marked,

they didn't have any problem getting them back on her and I guess she was quite

a little escape artist at first. I was lucky because the lady that watches Rose

had a sister that wore a DBB when she was about 4 years old. She was completely

comfortable with the DBB and there were no problems. She even modified one of

the highchairs so Rose could sit in it (and later gave it to me).

At almost 10 months old, Rose can twist her foot and get the shoes off if she

wants. I guess I am lucky that she dosn't do this. Occasionally she gets bored

waiting for me to get them off and, one quick twist and the shoe is off, still

buckled up.

Good luck!

Markell makes the new style boots in a 0000 now which should help with the

tiny little ones footlets. If she's slipping that much the strap probably

needs a couple more holes and perhaps the 0000's would be a better choice.

Yes, Simon was in daycare from the time he was 6 weeks old. It was no big

deal for th elady who keeps him. Simon is in a daycare that is run from a

ladies house. But she does have 12 kids and is liscenced by the state. My

advice is look into the centers policy, and make sure the provider is a

loving devoted caregiver and not just there for a paycheck. We are forunate

because we live in a small town where we know everybody. Reputation in this

town is everything. As far as the dbbs go, if the foot is well corrected and

the shoes are set at the right angle, the shoes should stay on. I would

suggest taking him back to the dr ASAP.

Does M have a crease on the bottom of her foot that goes across the width of

the foot at the base of the heel. (between the heel and the most narrow part

of the foot)?? I had trouble with my sons too but we had trouble in the casts

and the shoes because he has plantaris. Plantaris makes the foot more difficult

to correct and If M has the crease I mentioned I recommend having your doctor

call Dr Ponseti for instructions for treatment.

If no then my only suggestion is practice. Assuming you have the markell

shoes. I hold pressure to keep the foot in the right place until I have the

strap

buckled. I also lift the toes up to make sure the heel is in the right place.

The tong of the shoes is best if the top of it is even with the top of the

shoe.

Goodluck hope this helps. Becky

Hi, I had the exact same problem with my son. When he first went

into the DBB. He would keep his foot in long enough for you to get

the shoe laced up and then they were off again. All the while you

were trying to put them back on he was screaming. The whole family

was hysterical. The next day I called his doctor back and we took

him back in and he casted him one last time because his heel wasn't

stretched far enough. This helped a lot! He has been in the shoes

almost a month now (he's coming up on four months old). I still have

to check and make sure he's positioned right. I made a mark in the

shoe to where if I see the mark I know he's pulling out. Usually I

have to fix it during the day but I think it's more the shoes

stretching out. It was the hardest thing I had ever been through and

I tried every trick in the book but finally it seems to be working.

Is her heel stretching out enough to allow the shoes to stay on? I

wish I could tell you how to help because believe me I know how

stressful it is. I " ve tried different kinds of socks but found the

thinner the better on him, I guess maybe because I can get the shoe

on tighter. So far we haven't had any problems with blisters or

sores (thank goodness). If I can help in any way please let me know.
