Guest guest
A yogurt maker was one of the first things I bought, and then I splurged and bought another one. I can make two batches in the time it takes to make one, and that has been a great time saver. I was nervous with the first few batches, and I threw one out because it looked funny to me. With practice it's not hard. I am a newbie here too and just learning the ropes for myself. I truly feel for any child who has to cope with an illness and I know you will do your best for your son. I wish you both the best. PJ > > Thanks Alyssa for your thoughts. I did check out a video on www.ccccibs.com and it showed how to make it. I like your idea about getting a yogurt maker and wrote that down on my list of things to get. I'm so thankful that there is this group! > > Tracie > Crohn's (son) April 09 >
Guest guest
Thank you PJ for your thoughts. It seems that yogurt is a big part of SCD and I can't wait to try to find new ways of using it other than in a smoothie. I bought the book Healing Foods Cooking for Celiacs, Colitis, Crohn's and IBS by Ramacher. Great photos! I do love to cook and try out new things. The way I look at it is this is a lifestyle change. Sure we will have to find something other than pizza on thursdays (our tradition) but our son's health is more important. Guest guest
Tracie,Yeah, loosing the pizza is rough. My parents and brother had their pizza today while I had my pureed chicken soup, but it's all good because I know I'm making my gut happy! =) To eat my yogurt, I drip it first (using T-shirt material; it works like a charm, much better than cheesecloth!) so it's creamy like regular yogurt, then I add some sugarfree, seed free rasperry jelly. It tastes like the 'fruit on the bottom' yogurt, but without the fruit on the bottom! It's also tasty with honey and sugar free vanilla added, which makes it taste like vanilla yogurt. I also find it's good with applesauce and cinamon in it. Yogurt is one of my favorite things to eat these days, it makes me feel like a normal person!AlyssaThank you PJ for your thoughts. There's a great pizza crust recipe in Recipes for the SCD by Raman Prasad - though I do my own thing on the top of the pizza crust. Anyway, that's the best SCD pizza crust that exists, IMO, by far. Don't make the one in the BTVC book by Elaine - it's more like an omelet than a pizza. <vbg>. Pizza's actually the one thing I'm still jonesing for - smelled some today on my way home from yoga class - my mind naturally automatically started to figure out rationalizations about how I could have some. LOL! Anyway, now that I'm back eating cheese, maybe I should make the SCD pizza recipe again and get rid of that feeling. Mara
Guest guest
tracie, s book is great and she has her own ssite so if you have any problems, you can get in tough with her directly. She is a lovely lady and has her own son on scd diet so she can help with all those school lunch ideas and party type food that kids miss. jena husband crohns nov 08 scd dec 08 Thank you PJ for your thoughts. Guest guest
To everyone who has responded to my post, a big thank you! I was not having much luck with another site I posted on in getting a response to my new found situation. I even posted on the site about the SCD and heard nothing. I also joined the pecanbread group at the suggestion of another poster and look forward to the info from them as well. Your responses truly mean the world to me. You try to seek information and guidance and...nothing. I feel much better about the road ahead. Tracie Crohn's (son) April
