Guest guest
Hi, I am not sure which message you are replying to, but " autosomal " or nuclear DNA (nDNA) defects as opposed to mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) defects can indeed be passed on by fathers. The most devastating and more widely known problems are with mtDNA defects, which are passed on from the mother, but there was one reported case where a man was found to have his fathers mtDNA too. Guest guest
Cotton If the defect that is causing the mito is in the nuclear DNA and then either parent can pass it on. laurie > From: Cottontender@... > Reply-To: > Date: Thu, 18 Dec 2003 01:32:45 EST > To: > Subject: Re: fathers pass mito?/Hi everyone > > are you saying it is proven that fathers can pass mito along? > > cotton > > > > Medical advice, information, opinions, data and statements contained herein > are not necessarily those of the list moderators. Guest guest
Both sides of my family show symptoms, with my paternal uncle most obvious. There are a lot of thyroid problems on that side of my family too, so I don't rule out an autoimmune cause for my symptoms. I'm waiting on genetic test results, but another vote for nDNA cause of my condition is that my kids are all okay (so far). Take care, RH > Cotton > > If the defect that is causing the mito is in the nuclear DNA and then either > parent can pass it on. > > laurie > > > From: Cottontender@a... > > Reply-To: > > Date: Thu, 18 Dec 2003 01:32:45 EST > > To: > > Subject: Re: fathers pass mito?/Hi everyone > > > > are you saying it is proven that fathers can pass mito along? > > > > cotton > > > > > > > > Medical advice, information, opinions, data and statements contained herein > > are not necessarily those of the list moderators.
