Guest guest
> I am just looking for suggestions on what to use to do a quick wipe on the nights we are not doing a full cleaning. Hi Ann Marie, We went all through this a few years ago. The alcohol will work but our Audie said after a while it could make the soft ear molds hard. She recommened pulling the ear molds off a couple of times a week and letting them sit overnight in hydrogen peroxide. It really bubbles and boils away the ear wax! Then you just use the blower bulb to blow out the stuff in the tubing. It worked for us. (my daughter has a CI now). Terri

Ann Marie, I'm not sure if this is an approved thing or not, just what we've done with no ill-effects. My daughter has always liked using flushable wipes. So, I buy them and always have a little box of them on the back of the toilet. We now use them to do quick cleanings of the molds. Wipe with the flushables, then dry quickly with the regular tissues. There's nothing in the flushables that bothers our son's ears, so that's our quick fix. Dry tissues stick to the wax, wet tissues just fall apart. I use to get baby wipes -- long after my kids were babies, and we still use them in the car, but they seem to have a stronger cleaner and stronger perfumes. I can still clean them really quickly with a toothbrush, but now that Ian is older, he prefers to do those things himself. Guest guest
Ann Marie- We used to use a cloth diaper (the thin kind worked better). They are lint free and worked perfectly. You could just cut one down into smaller squares, but since we used them as burp cloths too, we just always had them around. I will admit that I now just use my shirt; my standards have slipped a bit! They do have ear mold sanitizing spray. I got a bottle for free last year and still have plenty left. I think they retail for about $5 (Hal-Hen sells one kind). They are mainly alcohol, but it is supposed to be a lower concentration that what you'd find in alcohol wipes and therefore ok to use regularly on earmolds. I use a wooden toothpick on Hadley molds to clean out the opening where wax and other gunk congregates. I've found that I can use the side of the toothpick to scrape off any excess OtoFerm, etc from the mold itself, which gets the job done. Also, putting the molds in the Dry & Store and then cleaning them in the morning might be easier if your main culprit is wax. The Dry & Store will harden the wax and it will just pop out with little work on your end. Find out from your audi how frequently your son should get his ears cleaned by an ENT. We go every 3-4 months now to a local ENT who works with children, which keeps Hadley's ears clean with just a healthy amount of wax in them. I know some families have been given permission by their audis and ENTs to use the at-home wax removal kits, but only do so yourself after getting that cleared by your team. The one thing I like about using a local ENT for the ear cleanings is that it's easy for me to get an appt there if I question whether Hadley has an ear infection-- I don't have to haul ourselves into town to go to the Children's Hospital and see her ENT there.
