I'm on Medicare, etc. and so primary insurance is not a problem. When I

applied for long term care insurance I had to swear I was on Coumadin and

that I had not had a documented afib episode for a year. At the time I had

not had an episode for a year, so all was well. I was not able to get a

discounted rate, however.

I talked with a long term care insurance sales person about a year ago. I

don't remember for sure but I think I could get the insurance but the cost was

exorbitant. Either that or I didn't qualify. I do know that it was a

situation where I decided I would never get the insurance. Because of the

coumadin.

When you take coumadin they assume you are a stroke risk and strokes can

result in long term care that they don't want to pay for. Insurance companies

are

betting that you will not linger and you are betting that you will.

Thank you, I live in Canada and we have our health coverage, but I am

woried about my drug plan. They put on some pills for blood pressure

that are currently covered but if I switch jobs, I am worried that

they may not accept me in to the plan...

Not only am I not a doctor, but I'm not an insurance underwriter :-)

Nevertheless, I have been in situations where I'm choosing a health insurance

carrier for an organization. My experience in Canada is that there's not the

'pre-existing conditions' dodge that can be used to avoid providing coverage.

Adding your drug cost is unlikely to affect the actuarial cost of providing

services to the organization. Depending on the type of organization that it is,

I'd probably talk to the HR people AFTER YOU'VE RECEIVED AN OFFER to let them

know your concern and they can get the reassurance that you need from the

insurer.
