Read labels because it is in virtually 99.9% of everything found on a grocery shelf. It is ridiculous what it's in, as you look at the product and think why would that be in THERE??!!

Soon it will be second nature to all of us to check labels... I won't buy anything new without reading it's label... and even the stuff that I buy regularly I've learned to check, cuz more and more companies are taking the cheap way out... well, cheap my not be the right word.... They are promoting higher protein content (soy), lower carbohydrates (HFCS), dietetic with natural sweeteners (splenda).. it's ridiculous... and they can't seem to figure out why little babies are coming down with cancer??? Look at what we are eating.. and feeding to babies... and young children!!

Even our pets are getting cancers cuz of the junk added to their feed....

sigh... shutting up.... shutting up.... I AM shutting up!

I have read labels for many years, for artificial anything, colour flavours etc, MSG, sugars (will be interesting to see how much corn syrup )I find second nature BUT never realized the soy connection until I started reading these boards, now corn syrup , I always avoided products that had 3 or 4 sugar additives disguised as different names usually ending in "ose".....they promote soy here heavily, citing how Asian women eat/drink a lot of soy and don't have nearly as much osteoporosis, it is almost worshipped as.. THE greatest preventative.......Meleese in Oz xxx

Yep... all stuff that the docs don't tell us when we get started on replacement hormone....

One of the reasons that I love about natural thyroid (other than the fact that my body can use it much better then it could synthetic) is that you can take it sublingually, bypassing the digestion and all the binding issues that come into play with calcium and iron.

There was something Shomon said in an interview on the radio about soy - she said the stuff you want to avoid is the additive type, and the soy milk, and all that stuff you can eat in vast quantities every day. However, she said that the type the asians eat as part of their culture, like miso and tofu etc are NOT part of the problem. So you might want to read up on what Shomon says about soy. I'm going by memory. She also said not to take anything with calcium in it for 3-5 hours around when you take your thyroid meds or it will bind with the med and you won't properly absorb your dose. So people who take their meds in the morning with their calcium fortified orange juice are washing a chunk of their thyroid meds right out of their bodies. Interesting huh? Also - Hi, my name is Lynn and I'm a label reading junkie. Of course, I learned to do that when I learned about being lactose intolerant around 20-something. Whey seems ubiquitous as a filler. Blah! Cheapskates.-Lynn

Can’t you take the synthetic sublingually as well? I thought you could...

You know....I am having trouble contributing to this

conversation without a huge bout of pre-pubescent

giggling...hehe....but I have always been fine with

milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, ice cream....everything!

But the other day. The ugly old PMS monster reared its

head and I ate a bowl of ice cream roughly the size of

my head and hoo-boy! Um, how shall I pu this

delicately...I was not exactly " productive " but things

got pretty noisy....now I know this sounds rather

petty, but it got *really* bad! To the point where I

had to reconsider my plans for the rest of the day. I

mean I just couldn't go out and be around people in

that condition, you know? lol hehe I'm sorry I have a

mental problem when it comes to " this " Anyone who

knows me calls it " laughing gas " hehe I swear I am

(mostly) normal on all other accounts, but as soon as

that topic comes up I am useless! hehehe

I make my own chocolate confections... using the same ingredients for years... so I'm not sure why my reaction is different... might be something else that just causes me to be more sensitive to the cocoa or something... my regular eating habits have changed over the last few months...

if the cocoa is canned, you may be having a sensitivity to the metal that lines the can...
