Guest guest
Hi all, My aunt sent this note in her latest TV guide regarding a 10-year old girl acting in an upcoming SciFi Channel mini-series. I thought it was interesting that Apraxia is getting some mainstream publicity. Has anyone on this list met Gage and know her story? ********** A walking, talking miracle Though a relative newcomer to acting, 10-year-old Gage Golightly more than holds her own with 5ive Days' veteran cast--a remarkable feat when you consider what she's been through in her young life. Born with a rare disorder called apraxia of speech, Golightly was nearly 6 years old before she was able to talk. " She growled and made guttural noises, but nothing you could understand, " says her mother, Michele. " She'd get so angry that she would bang her head until it bled. It was horrific. " But she persevered through several years of intensive speech therapy. Today the young actress is a straight-A student who has trouble keeping quiet in school. " I'm like a Chatty doll with a broken string, " Golightly says. As for playing the super-smart , " I love science as much as , so it was pretty darn easy.
