I was diagnosed as lone PAF in March 2000. Started on flecainide 50mg

twice a day. No side-effects, but also no benefit at that dose. By

the end of first week they upped my dose to 100mg twice a day. That

dose worked for 3 years, preventing all but brief episodes every

couple of months. But in late 2003 I started having breakthroughs to

afib episodes lasting 24 hours plus. Had two electro cardioversions,

last in Feb 2004. At that time they upped my dosage to 150mg twice a

day --- and I have been in NSR since then. :-)

I had some visual disturbances each time they increased the dosage,

but rarely have any now (but sometimes if I turn my head very fast).

After reading experiences on this board, I started magnesium oxide

250mg, and that immediately stopped almost all ectopics.

flecainide 150mg x2, aspirin 325mg, magnesium oxide 250mg, fish oil

--Hi ,

I was on Flecainide 2x200mg's daily up until a couple of days but i

had to reduce my intake as I was having really bad visual

disturbances. It was also affecting my sense of balance too. I felt

as though I was about to topple over so I emailed my EP and agreed

with him to reduce my intake to 300mg's daily. I have to-day at my

own instigation reduced further my intake to 2x100mg's and I feel so

much better but I will have to wait and see if that dosage is too

low. .

I also have " at my own instigation " reduced my flecainide dosage if

the visual effects build up. Since my afib is vagal (and almost

always starts during sleep), if I am having visual disturbances I cut

my morning 150mg tablet in half for 1 or 2 days. That seems to allow

my system to metabolize any excess, and the side effects go away. So

far this worked, without triggering AF.
