Guest guest
I'm wondering if things are a bit off... if your usually day is on the busy side.... do you normally have that much activity everyday .. any days off? I'm looking at your calorie intake... 5,000 to 7,000 calories is quite a bit...if you've been taking in around 7,000 and not gaining with that... and dropped your calories by nearly a third.. that's a pretty significant drop to your system.. that might be contributing to how you are feeling.... Beyond that... that's a lot of calories.... I'm wondering why your body is needing that much... I'm a pretty hefty persona myself and you're more than doubled my needs... How long since you last ate? You said your sweaty now and your pulse is high?? Makes me think hyper.... got a thermometer? Can you take your pulse? Take a look at your pupil reaction too.... the light shine thing... do you remember that one? Look in a mirror and shine a light from the side... if your pupils contract and hold... normal... if they contract and then flutter... there is something else happening.... adrenal is one... an adrenal surge, maybe... from stress.... ??? The loss of sleep has me wondering about that.... Any changes in your choices of foods.. have you added something new? I am sweaty, shakey and did I mention I am sitting here just sweating..( its not that hot out) windows are open. My pulse is 117 ( gotta love a pulse meter) I should be cleaning but just the trips up and down the stairs have me wiped out although I am not tired at least not mentally, I am bored. Not focusing.Friday I worked late, Sat I got up early took one boy to a gym competition, then went to work and worked late..Sunday was an early morning work day, Monday no work but the boys have track at school so helped with that plus company over ,, watched a few nieces and nephews, tuned up some bikes for the spring etc, Yesterday basically the same thing except track practise again, then a quick meal..dropped one off at gym and took the other two to baseball practise and helped with the running for about 2 hours then back to the gym for pick up, home to company..SO I could of over did things, but I am usually this busy so ?The other thing I did was check out the calorie counter..and thinking this might be it..I am at just over 7000 calories on a good day..oops.. so I have been trying to keep it under 5000 the last two days..could this be it? I am still having the protien which I know I need. Any ideas or am I just having a bad day?Kats3boys

Guest guest
Kat - Does your doctor have anything to say about all this? My first reaction would be to grab the doc's attention and ask him to listen. I wrote mine a letter (6 freakin' pages). But with what your'e experiencing, I would think he should be actively searching for reasons for you. If he doesn't, find one who will search. Guest guest
I'm about to go to the library right now - and if they have any of Shomon's books, I'll grab one and see if I can find anything that sheds light on what you're experiencing. Well at least your GP is compassionate and wants to help. A very good sign. -Lynn > > > > Kat - > > > > Does your doctor have anything to say about all this? Guest guest
Kat... you're hyper... With the symptoms here, and the numbers in your other post.... oh yeah... You're not on meds yet... right?? Do obscure little muscles twitch in your arms or legs... or face? Does your tongue ever cramp? Do you have several bowl movements a day, not diarrhea, healthy ones? You've ruled out Hashi's damage.... Hashi's can start as a hyper swing.... rare, but possible. Hyper can be Grave's Hyper can be a genetic thing... defects in hormone receptor sites... mine was the genetic thing.. I have trashed TSH receptors... for me my gland decided to just keep speeding up, since it had no TSH to tell it what to do.... Constant TSH... that makes me think it's a receptor thing.... Simple test... hold out your hands... rib cage high - mid way between belly button and chest.... Palms facing down and parallel to the floor, fingers slightly spread, elbows at your sides. Relaxed. Can you hold your fingers still or do the dance/wiggle a bit? If they wiggle... can you force them to be still? If you can, how long can you hold them still before they wiggle again? Now get up and walk around a bit... one end of the house and back.... now do the hand thing again... what happens? I know this sounds totally whacked.. but it's actually one of the many tests done with me to monitor my rate of slowing down after the RAI... to determine the rate that the hormone levels were dropping in me.. the physical tests were compared to my labs.. As I became more hyper reflex tests were added.... The doctor that diagnosed me and sent me in for RAI that day also checked my fingers for 'dance' and asked about my tongue cramp..... Haven't thought of the cramp for ages.... Will they test Free T3? I'll be it's WAY over the top... Now your adrenals are acting up from the hyper.... Topper ()*** this is just my opinion... based on my experiences while dealing with thyroid storm, RAI, and the resulting increasing hypo condition that followed the destruction of my thyroid gland *** On Wed, 10 May 2006 19:57:19 -0000 "kats3boys" writes: I have three very physically active boys , age 10, 8 and 8 who still think mommy is their favorite playmate..I work fri, sat, sun, hubby works mon, tues, weds, thurs, and 1/2 days on Friday..this way we do not do daycare( $$)..my time off is when the boys are in school..although I usually have house chores or shopping or company over or? Guest guest
Kat, I looked for Shomon's books at the library - but all the good stuff is on a waiting list. Boo I had to wait 6-8 weeks when I got Dr. Blanchard's book too. I guess that shows there are a LOT of people with thyroid problems. The only books left on the shelves were sorta pathetic in content. I did see mention somewhere from Shomon that thyroid can swing hyper before making a swing for hypo. Usually it won't go back and forth more than once or twice I guess - but it sounds like you're experiencing a swing. II remember it said it is more common when the thyroid gland shows enlargement - which you said is the case with you. It is odd reading about your experience, because I recognize a lot of things that I have gone through in many past years. Hell I think I was swinging between hyper and hypo at times. I still get the tingling sleeping deadness in my arms at times, I get twitches that can drive me mad - and at one time they were so rampant a few years ago I was sure I was going to die of something hideous. It kills me that no one ever connected all the dots of all my bizarre symptoms over the years. Anyway - back to you - if I can find anything else out I'll send it on. I did read that lack of sleep will cause you to feel like you' have to eat more too. So - your symptoms seem to be following some pattern. But - how to deal with it - I don't know yet. Hang in there! -Lynn
Guest guest
Hi , this is interesting...............the last few years I've been unable to stand the smell of fish and can't eat it.I used to love it!! The first thing that went out of kilter with me was oysters. Used to love them could eat them raw. I went out to a fancy restaurant one night ordered a dozen, and nearly threw up when they brought them to me..........couldn't eat them. Since then it's been a gradual thing, with other fish and now I can't eat anything, well maybe prawns but that's it!! I'm just wondering about the iodine factor, could my body be rejecting fish because of this?? I understand with Hashi's you have to avoid it?? Maybe this is really far fetched I don't know, just thought I'd throw it out there??.......................Meleese in Oz xxx ----- Original Message ----- From: topper2@... I 'controlled' my condition for several years by shifting my diet (unknown to me at the time why my taste changed) by chowing down goitrogens.... plate fulls of raw broccoli and cauliflower, strawberries... and mounds of coleslaw. I was growing kohlrabi back then... I'd slice it really thin and sprinkle it with salt.. I ate it like potato chips... just mounds of the stuff. Brussels sprouts left and right.... You know how folks with put out vegie platters at a party with the bowl of dip in the middle? I'd stand at the table a drink in one hand and grabbing all the broccoli and cauliflower off the tray, didn't use dip... scarfed it down straight when those items were gone, and everyone was glaring at me... I'd leave, never touching a carrot or celery stick.... There is all kinds of stuff like that happening in the last few years leading up to the storm... Hey... don't go freaking that you're gonna storm not that many do. Topper ()

On a good note if the doc wants to order any other T test the lab automatically does Free's unless specific diagnostic criteria is met to order a total or reverse..everyone gets a Free T4, Free T3 run. I am not worried about storm, unless I end up sick with a nasty viral illness, direct injury to the neck, car accident that type of thing..and being in overdrive the illness thing is covered as I have not been sick other than maybe a sinus head ache from allergies in a long time. I do know I cycle and have noticed some relation to my menstrual cycle..the shorter the cycle the more hyper I feel and about every 3 months it gets bad..thinking I am maybe hitting that 3 month time? Need to check out more on the adrenal/estrogen thing as my thinking lately seems to be going more along the line of the TBG.If my monthly cycle is effecting my thyroid hormones then the estrogen is high enough to bind T4 and slow the conversion to normal but when the estrogen lowers the TBG lowers and the conversion rate to T3 increases givng me the hyper swing? I do know my body could never handle the birth control pill. 6 months on the pill and I was actually diagnosed with arthritis and had it really bad, my ex had to cut up my food for me just so I could eat as I could no thold a knife, the fork was hard enough. With in the following month I became pregnant and miscarried on the pill..off the pill and with in a few days no arthritis..all antibody tests, x-rays etc all negative..even now they are negative..mind you they never ran them before when I was sick so I do not know if I would of even tested positive then for them. Genetics has me thinking, both sides of my family have hyper and although medical records were not as detailed there is no mention of Grave's, just hyper..and very few men in the family have made it past 45, heart attacks..but no record of heart disease? I know my mom who had RAI from being hyper was told it was Grave's but since has had antibody testing and they are all negative. But then they test TRAB here which is Thyroid Receptor antibodies and not TSI which is Thyroid Stimulating Antibodies and TRAB is only positive in 70% of those with Graves well TSI is positive in over 90 % of those with Graves.
