Guest guest
Bill, I McAfee caught the virus when I selected her message, God Bless Jim Stark Re: Hi everyone Sheila, My copy of 's email did not have an attachment. Therefore it is not a file. Unless it is a MSWord macro virus (I don't use MSWord so I don't have to worry about macro viruses aimed at it). Take care, Bill and Charlotte ------------------------------------------ sheila coutant wrote: this came up as an INFECTED FILE from Mcaffee and 2 others ... delete
Guest guest
Bill, Here's my (edited) Norton Log: Date: 3/20/01, Time: 10:45:44 ... The file C:\...\DeletedItems.mbx was infected with the WScript.KakWorm virus. The file was repaired. I have the 3/13/01 set of virus definitions. Regards, =jbf= B. Guest guest
, That explains why I did not get the message from Norton. I have the patch from Microsoft that repairs the security hole AND I do not use Outlook Express (in fact it is disabled). The following is the Norton writeup on this virus (which is almost two years old). **************************************************************** Wscript.KakWorm spreads using Microsoft Outlook Express. It attaches itself to all outgoing messages using the Signature feature of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer newsgroup reader. The worm utilizes a known Microsoft Outlook Express security hole so that a viral file is created on the system without having to run any attachment. Simply reading the received email message causes the virus to be placed on the system. Microsoft has patched this security hole. The patch is available at: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/ie/tools/scrpteye.asp If you have a patched version of Outlook Express, this worm will not work automatically. ******************************************************************* It is best to update your software regularly (epecially if the update is free) as it can save you grief. I was worried because Norton had not said anythig about the message having a virus (but Norton knew it could not hurt my computer or pass it on to others). That is the same set of definitions I am using and it is current. April 1, my contract runs out with Norton and I will install Norton Works 2001. Take care and thanks for the info. Guest guest
Betty, I don't like to make strong suggestions, but in your case it seems obvious to me that you need home health care to help you deal with Ken. This disease makes like stressful enough -- if you can get help, do it. Debbie -
