Makes you wonder exactly who is in control, the mother or the child!!!! My step-son is 5 and the thought makes me shudder, DS was b/fed for about a month (not discontuned by choice, not enough to go round!!) and although that was a lovely experience, I could'nt have continued to a stage where he could ask to latch on! yuck!! Guest guest
I don't see anything wrong really in allowing a child to breastfeed till this age. DH and I were discussing this kind of thing last night and I said I couldn't understand why breastfeeding is seen as distasteful, say at 4 years old, whilst giving a 4 year old milk to drink from a *completely different species* is seen as acceptable and normal ) I plan to breastfeed for sometime yet but of course have no idea how long we will carry on for, DS is only 10 weeks old right now! So feeding a newborn slips seamlessly into feeding a crawling, walking, baby, toddler, child. Guest guest
Yes I saw that. Guest guest
OK!, I have been told. I honestly did'nt mean to offend anyone by saying that I could'nt b/feed a 5yr old. It is just my opinion that 5 to me, seems quite grown up. I can completely understand b/feeding babies and toddlers, it must be lovely to still have that sort of closeness. Maybe if had continued to b/feed I would have a difference perspective! All I remember is very sore nipples that were excruciating for the first 5 minutes! and mine did'nt even have teeth by then!! As I had to stop b/feeding as DS was tooooo hungry all the time, and I was'nt producing. I have always wondered, is it possible to feed your baby on breast milk for the duration, but with a bottle? or does your milk stop? Sounds like a stupid question but I would like to know, just in case the next time round I have the same problems but manage to express! this is beginning to sound like a session for a BFC!! Sorry. It is just my opinion that 5 to me, seems quite grown up....... Please don`t take offence Kirsten! we have lots of different experience and all opinions here are personal, valid, and apply to our own experiences, yours is just as valid as anyone else`s! I am not a BFC but I gather most soreness problems are to do with postioning. And you will be well set up here to get help next time round, if you need it! I didn`t b/f my DD1 for as long as I wanted..it just didn`t work out for us....but with DD2 I was well set up to get NCT BFC help, and debrief DD1 experience, & I was able to feed for as long as she wanted to - about 18 mths.. Guest guest
I'm not in the least bit offended! Just wanted to say that children don't go from being newborn to being 5 yrs old in one day. Getting bigger just sort of grows on them!! FWIW, I have a 25 yr old son who was recently quite poorly with a nasty bout of glandular fever. Although I wouldn't go so far as to say I wanted to BF him(!) I still wanted to make it all better for him - its just a mother's instinct to do the best for her child, however big and grown up he/she is. Guest guest
I don't think many people set out to feed a five year old, it just happens. I can remember feeling nauseated as a second time mum (who I really miss it now and wish we had carried on longer but it was by fairly mutual consent that we stopped. Interestingly, her favoured form of comfort is still to lie with her cheek against my upper chest and stroke my cheek/neck like she did when feeding. ---------- I only stopped feeding Jonty 3.5 months ago and he still does that, it's soooo sweet. :-) Tupman Mum to Matt 13, 10, Jonty 19 months & Phil 36 NCT Houseswap Register Coordinator

I hate white > underwear. Or maybe I should buy some new bras in my new size. I'm a bit > tight though and my new size is hard to come by (34J!) karen, when i went to be measured for a new bfeeding bra when dd was a few weeks old, my mum (who had accompanied me) couldn't stop laughing when I was told I was a 32J! I mean, i was big before but I didn't even know there was such thing as " J " ! I had emma jane zip cups and then an NCT mava, but both were white. I cannot cope with white underwear either, one wash and it's grey. I never found a black bra in my size. Have you checked the NCT range - I think there may be one in 34? In my view there is quite poor choice in bfeeding bras for bigger sizes, esp. in smaller back sizes. When i was told I had reduced to 30F (how???? I was a 34 pre-pg!!) i went back to nice normal bras, just a bit more complicated in terms of access for bf. But worth it for feeling a bit less frumpy. laura -- (24), Mum to Tabby (15 months)
Guest guest
DH had a fit when I came back and told him I had bought a 34J bra. He doesn't like me telling people either (not sure why). I've got a Bravissimo catalogue somewhere but I am sure they don't do nursing bras (may do sports ones). I would buy one of their ordinary bras but they are quite expensive and I don't know how long I'm going to be this size. (usually a 34DD which is considered small in the Bravissimo catalogue which is why I like it!) > when i went to be measured for a new bfeeding bra when dd was a few > weeks old, my mum (who had accompanied me) couldn't stop laughing when > I was told I was a 32J! Guest guest
Oooo I love Bravissimo! They are on the web but can't remember address, if you want to check out nursing bras (but poor choice as I remember and white only). I wouldn't invest in too many bras as your size will probably change. I have been through about four sizes in the 15 months since dd was born, although I think I have finally stablised! Well I have stabilised enough in my opinion to purchase a few of Bravissimo's choice offerings...! ---------- > > > I've got a Bravissimo catalogue somewhere but I am sure they don't do > nursing bras (may do sports ones).
