Thyroid ultrasound and release of hormone from the palpation- stress dose for?

Hi Val

I have a thyroid ultrasound this afternoon and am uncertain how much I

should stress dose (over 5mg?). I'm currently on 10-7.5-5-2.5 HC cream.

Presumably the transducer will press quite hard against the thyroid,

and as I have Hashi's, I'm wondering whether excess thyroid hormone

might be produced, making me thyrotoxic (I've definitely read somewhere

that palpation of the thyroid can cause it to release thyroid hormone).

I'm only tolerating 25ug Cytomel at the mo due to my adrenal crash, so

extra hormone might not be welcome and perhaps TOO large a stress dose

might mean too much of any excess hormone released will get taken up by

my receptors....

Will post with ultrasound results when I have them - I'm really quite

nervous about starting this scan/biopsy rollercoaster, but aside from

nodules have a whole host of large, hard lymph nodes that they need to

check too, so investigations have to be made I suppose.

Thanks,

Louise
