Hi, everyone! I finally got to talk with Anne tonight. She is doing

marvelous. She wasn't in pain, but also mentioned that the recovery

room was a scary experience because of the anesthesia. She felt

paralyzed as well but was totally aware of everything around her and

could hear. She couldn't open her eyes or even move her mouth/tongue.

I guess she began to wake up towards the end of the surgery so they

gave her another dose of anesthesia. Then, in recovery, they had to

adminster something to counteract it (this is definately a question

I'm going to ask the anesthesiologist! LOL)... she was aware but

unable to move. She said that this is pretty common in laparoscopic

surgery because they do not want the patient to move at all and any

movement (caused by the patient arousing to any degree) can throw off

the surgery. However, she wished that she had been prepared and

informed of this possibility beforehand! It certainly would make one

less anxious when they are unable to move in recovery!

She told me that Sandy K has experienced some problems today - please

keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She's been throwing up all

day. :( Also, when she went for the leak test earlier in the

morning, the barium wouldn't go down all the way. They think it's

swelling and let's hope that's all it is and the situation will take

care of itself without any other intervention. Anne's leak test went

without incident, although she did have to wait forever before and

after in radiology.

Anne also mentioned Mt. Sinai may go on strike tomorrow - great!

Right before my surgery (on the 25th). I tell ya! Everyone knows the

staff there is overworked (as is the situation in most hospitals, I

believe).

Also, Dr. GAgner did get a chance to meet with Anne and Sandy K. later

today, so they both got the opportunity to speak with him. :) I

wasn't able to call SAndy K tonight - the phone was busy. Maybe it's

off the hook so she can relax/sleep a little.

I'll keep everyone posted!

all the best,

laparoscopic BPD/DS with gallbladder removal

Dr. Gagner/Mt. S
