Well your 72 pounds loose has been a bit more noticable than my 27.5 so I'm sure they notice yours more. Good advice on cutting out the useless calories, but don't let her gat fixated on a number on the scale. Also, she will probably end up with body type like you or one of her aunts [who had similar proportions at her age]. I have yet to see any woman keep the body she had at 13!
