Guest guest
Hi everyone, Celia is having computer troubles, so asked if I would post this to the group and forward her any responses. Malisa ------------------------------------------------------------ Could you possibly ask the group about elevated cholesterol (andLDL) and mito- apparently my cholesterol and LDH fats are high- who knows why since I eat a low fat diet due to my GP. Have you ever heard of this with mito?I have absolutely no family history of this, and as I said i don'texactly eat a high fat diet. Also, I am wondering how much I should pushmyself, versus how much to just rest. I feel I may be loosing groundasregards muscular strength by being so inactive. I have a physioapointment next week (haven't been for a month) which includes 5 minutesof aerobic activilty on a stationary bike. Do you (or the group) thinkit would be bad to do this. I am trying to keep up with my stretchingexercises everyday. Since this am I have contacted an assortment of mydoctors for their advice- but haven't heard back from anyone just yet. Thanks. Guest guest
Celia My cholesterol and triglycerides were elevated after taking MCT oil which it shouldn't have been, so who knows what caused it. Since starting on Borage Seed Oil, it has gone down and stayed down. It might not work for others, but is working for me. As to exercise, I was told that a heart rehab type program is what is best for us. I saw someone at our hospital who runs these programs. My insurance wouldn't cover it as the diagnosis wasn't a heart attack, but he said to ride my recombant bike and not worry about the resistance (he suggested none and my neuro seconded it) or the length of time. He said to try to increase the time by half a minute every few days, but if I had to backup at times, not to worry about it. I have difficulty walking, so this is to help maintain healthy body functioning. laurie > From: Malilibear@... > Reply-To: > Date: Thu, 29 Jan 2004 18:46:43 EST > To: > Subject: From Celia > > Hi everyone, Celia is having computer troubles, so asked if I would post this > to the group and forward her any responses. > Malisa > ------------------------------------------------------------ > Could you possibly ask the group about elevated cholesterol (andLDL) and mito- > apparently my cholesterol and LDH fats are high- who knows why since I eat a > low fat diet due to my GP. Guest guest
Celia, I seems like I've heard that people with mito generally have either low cholesterol or high not usually normal. Either way it can be a prob. I have excercise intolerance but know of others who benefit from some physical activity. I think I would just start slowly and see how your body tolerates excercise. Maybe just start with light stretches. Good luck to you.
Guest guest
I don't know why this might be, but I've found that adding ground flax seed to meals (for example, one or two teaspoons with ice cream once a day) helps both reduce cholesterol and improve regularity. In my experience of course, I'm not a doctor, etc. Also, sometimes these values can be elevated by what you eat the day before, that is, fasting after midnight may not be enough for some people to show elevations in their cholesterol from a meal. CRP (C-reactive protein) and homocysteine are two other indicators of heart issues, perhaps you can have those checked as well. I hope you can get some answers. Take care, RH > Hi everyone, Celia is having computer troubles, so asked if I would post this > to the group and forward her any responses. > Malisa > ------------------------------------------------------------ > Could you possibly ask the group about elevated cholesterol (andLDL) and mito- > apparently my cholesterol and LDH fats are high- who knows why since I eat a > low fat diet due to my GP. Guest guest
I believe that flax seed has the same natural effect on cholesterol as the borage seed and Omega 6 oils (fish oils). ohgminion wrote: I don't know why this might be, but I've found that adding ground flax seed to meals (for example, one or two teaspoons with ice cream once a day) helps both reduce cholesterol and improve regularity. Guest guest
I have elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels also, well above 300 for both, despite a fat restricted diet (max 20g/day). Seems to be part of the whole faulty lipid metabolism thing for me. However, I can't comment on the question of whether or not to push yourself. I push myself hard, all the time. I also get myself in a lot of trouble, health-wise...not exactly a role model for anyone.
