I think fish bites the big one (read that to mean I don't like it). And fish

oil supplements tasted badly, smelled badly, and made my breath smell. I now

take flaxseed oil (also high in omega 3) which settles much better. Don't

know if it's helping yet, but it's healthy and it is supposed to help other

things, so I doubt it's hurting. Anyone else know more about flaxseed oil?

Thanks.

Hi Toni,

fresh fish oil should not be unpleasant. The problem is that fish oil in

capsules can turn rancid if not properly produced and stored. I was advised

to always test a batch of fish oil capsules by opening several of them and

tasting them. The taste should be 'clean', not sharp. Rancid oil is very bad

for you, on par with hydrogenated fats. Several years ago there was a study

that found 50% of fish oil that they sampled in stores rancid.

Flax seed oil is a reasonable alternative even if your body needs to process

it to turn it into the fatty acids it needs. Not everyone has all the

enzymes to make these conversion. Therefore flax oil isn't a direct fish

oil replacement.

Since I like fish it's no big deal that good fish oil capsules are hard to

find. I simply eat sardines and herring regularly. As an alternative

apparently Carlson's Cod Liver Oil is a nearly tasteless fish oil although

I've never had it myself. Store it in the fridge or it will turn rancid too.

PS The Protein Power Life Plan by Drs Eades is my source for the above. It

contains detailed explanations and additional sources for their standpoints.

A recommended read even if you do not care about low carb eating.

That is a dilema !

I personally supplement with a high quality fish oil (stored in the

fridge etc.) If you hate it, I understand why you may wish to use

flax oil (also store in a fridge) there is a concern that the body

process to make the essedntial forms DHA and EPA seem difficult and

uncertain .
