Honey, have you been exercising too much again? You must have been oxygen

deprived to

think an armadillo would be " cute to have around " !

If you persist in this deranged thinking, you can have mine! We live in town so

we can't shoot

off any guns. Criminals can, but not law-abiding citizens.

Well,

I've been searching the internet and so far this is all that I've been

able to find:

From TPWD:

Protected Wildlife Species in Texas

.... Armadillo - live armadillos may not be sold.

Sooooo, does that mean you can sell dead ones??? Doesn't say anything

about not being able to shoot the rascals that can burrow up to 15 feet

under the foundation slab of one's house!!! We've already poured

concrete to fill in one hole dug under the slab. Hey, , did ya

know that the state vegetable is the Texas Sweet Onion... and we can

pick those and eat 'em. I know, I know... you don't like onions.

The armadillo is actually the TX State small mammal.... the Longhorn is

the State large mammal.

Janet

Okay, hubby just looked it up in

his Texas Hunting Guide. There are no restrictions on hunting

armadillos on private property. Ya just can't keep 'em live as pets...

or sell them. Ya hear that Miss ... no pet armadillos for you.

A wealth of

information??? Nah, just the Queen of Google. LOL.

The mockingbird is the state bird... and the chuckwagon is the state

vehicle (hmmm... and I would've thought it was a Ford truck)

The state cooking implement is a cast iron dutch oven.

I've seen purses made from their shell and sold at flea markets so I'm guessing that armadillo didn't give it up willingly....LOL

Janet, When I hear your armadillo story I think of my son years ago, he was probably in the 5th grade, one day I heard him hollaring MOM looked could not see him, then saw his head go past the front window and he hollar, MOM... went and looked he had an armadillo by the tail and it was going back and forth and every time he passed the window he would hollar MOM....he thought he was really neat....tell you the truth...I don't know what happened to that varmit....MAYBE just MAYBE he came to visit your house. catch him by the tail and see if he runs back and forth in front of the window. What??? Ya want me to trap 'em and relocate them to your yard so that they can root up your lawn and shrub/flower beds???

I don't know if it's illegal to shoot them or not. Once up at our lake property I tried my best to catch one and I was gonna bring it home to my house. Everyone told me 2 things, one...I couldn't run fast enough to catch it and two...it wouldn't stay cage up cause it would dig itself out. I tried my best and even with help we never could catch it. they run and dart pretty fast

I think it would be cute to have a few of them around.

Just my opinion only.....LOL

Krispy Kreme's are good if they are fresh and warm. Otherwise Shipley's is MUCH

better. I am not a sweet person (food wise that is LOL) so I don't ever eat them

but sometimes they used to bring them to work and I would indulge. Not anymore.

Just not worth it. Give me a hamburger or french fries or a pizza any day over a

donut! LOL! At about 2 a.m. at Kroger we get the hot and fresh Krispy Kreme's.

If you are going to eat one, even though you shouldn't, go to Kroger at 2 a.m.

because that's when they are the best! LOL! Anyone can have a Krispy Kreme this

week, I give you permission, except for members of the winning team, SIX TOPS 'A

LOSIN'! LOL! :)

We were in college in Brownwood

That's funny cause Lake Brownwood is where our lake property is and that's where I was at when I was chasing mine. It was just a baby one.

I had no idea they were such diggers, course I have a dog that digs holes big enough to hide a small car in....LOL

Small world.

I went to camp there in Brownwood. I think it was with my church when I was

little. WOW that brings back memories. Don't remember anything about

armadillos there but I do remember a lot of BAD things going on there the

whole time I was there and it was shocking because this was church camp! Geez!

LOL! I also remember the little birds all over the ground and they were only out

at night and the guys were trying to catch them in their pillowcases. I don't remember

what they were called. Interesting the things that are locked in your memory that make

no sense whatsoever! LOL!

~~~~~ You WOULD NOT want an armadillo in your yard -- unless (as has been said) you want a bunch of small holes in it !!!!! They are such WEIRD little critters !!!!!!! Really funny (sounds bad) when you see them dead along the road --- upside down. Had a friend once who came from Tennessee and first thought they were all sleeping like that on the highway !!!!!!!!!! LOL !!!!!!!! Hugs, Randie
Jackie, my son used to have an armadillo (plaster body in a real shell) laying on it's back with a Coor's beer bottle clasped in it's paws!! Don't know what ever happened to that beautiful piece of art work, but it would have been a lovely addition to your collection!! LOL
>>>JACKIE WROTE>>>>I don't know what you
have out there at your place that all these creatures want to come
visit you.
Well, according to hubby,
I've 'created' the perfect habitat. I plant flowers in my flower beds
that attract bugs that like to eat the roots.... which in turn, draws
in armadillos that like to eat the bugs. The warm, moist, mulched beds
also attract toads and frogs... which attract the snakes. We've had
plenty of other visitors as well.... bunnies, skunks, raccoons,
possums, a wild pig and her litter of piglets, deer, coyotes, 3
wandering emus, and a neighboring ranch's herd of cattle that once ate
my St. Augustine lawn down to nothing. We've got the whole flippin'
food chain out here. Oh, yeah, the neighbors breed thoroughbred race
horses and over the past couple of years, we've had at least 5 or 6 of
the young ones jump the fence into our property. I guess our grass
looks greener on this side of the fence.
hugs,
Janet
