Guest guest
Hi all. I'm very new to trying to find out what my "disease" actually is. After reading some of your correspondence, I'm beginning to believe that what I have is not actually urticaria. I do get the hives, but they are only caused by physical contact (i.e. scratching) where I welt in streaks, not in patches. It does not affect my face or throat or anything of the kind, but is a miserable condition. I initially went to an allergist and he gave me the standard skin patches and needles to try to diagnose, but every test came out negative. He prescribed Claritin and sent me on my merry itching way. I cannot do anything physical without welting and would like your input on whether I am on the right track. Benadryl makes me extremely sleepy and I can hardly function on the drug. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Guest guest
Hi, It sounds like you have a form of urticaria called dermograhia. This kind of urtcaria can be " reproduced " by scratching the skin surface. A Dr will often use a medical instrument to scratch the patient to see if they welt on the scratch line. For instance a lady once wrote me about taking a trip and her car keys hanging out of the ignition kept scratching her leg below.... when she arrived, she had a welt area where the keys had bothered her leg. It also sounds like you might have pruritis which is the intense itching associated with hives, without the actual hiving. People who have pruritis often have some form of angioedema and these are ALL symptoms of urticaria. Often shockers will get pruritis and angioedema without the hiving just befoe they shock. Hope this helps. Hugs, Myra > Hi all. Guest guest
Hi, Sounds like urticaria to me. I get the streaks also along with the patches and ordinary looking hives. I believe it's called dermagraphism when you can scratch and leave a red mark (sometimes for hours or days). I am just starting my hunt for what works as far as medication. I'm sure others will have more suggestions. I am on Allegra now but can't tell if it's helping. Good luck Sherrie
