It isn't that a rheumatologist is directly involved with hiving itself but

with diseases associated with the cause of hiving like lupus or other

things. Hiving is only a symptom of something else. Also joint pain is

associated with hiving so that is where a rheumatologist would be helpful as

with some other symptoms. Hope this helps, Love, ~Alena's Mom

I don't know if it could be or not. Some of the medications for arthritis might cause problems . Arthritis aufferers aften have to switch because a medication stops working ...

I have / had seen a Rheumatologist for almost 20 years because of rheumatoid arthritis. If you have noticed some of the messages, some hivers think they might have Lupus. Lupus is in the Rheumatoid "family".

I'm guessing here, but I imagine a lot of the problems a rheumatologist sees

are auto-immune (like rheumatoid arthritis). In a lot of cases of chronic

urticaria, the problem is also autoimmune.

As for the lupus (also an autoimmune disorder), it's not so much that some

hivers think they might have lupus, but will develop lupus. CU patients are

often regularly tested for lupus because it can eventually set in - CU is

just the prelude. Or they possibly already have lupus, the CU is actually a

symptom, even though test results are neg. for lupus. Plus, people that have

one autoimmune disorder often eventually develop others.
