Guest guest
Alli was on Progestimil. It is hypo-allergenic and pre-digested. And it tastes horrible. Sorry but I forgot how old Connor is. But Alli was trialed on other formulas first. 1st breastmilk, 2nd Isomil, 3rd Lactofree, 4th Nutramigen and then Progestimil. It seemed to help w/ the tummy discomfort. And maybe a little w/ the congestion. But still to date, we dont know what causes her congestion. But it is EXPENSIVE!!!!!
Guest guest
Thanks Johanne, has given me some information about our hospital (we attend the same one) and it's been so helpful. We're going to fly my husbands Nanna down from Townsville, Nth Queesnland for a month or so. My parents are living overseas until the end of the year and 's family are all in Townsville so we were stuck. At least we've got that problem sorted out. Now I just have to hope Connor gets better but he was sounding really croaky tonight so I'm planning for the worst. Hopefully he wont culture anything otherwise we'll probably be in as well every couple of months. Kristy
Guest guest
DEAR Kristy, I am so very sorry your having this start up now. He is young. BUT, It will in the long run keep the CF is so less strong position with him. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,as they say......... Maybe grandmom would love to come for the visit...and be a help as well. I always do with mine. I think whenever possible, most feel that way too. I am not familiar on how/what, etc. your hospitals do with the mommies/daddies there. Here they do just kind of blend in and varies ways accommodate--like big chairs. waiting room sofa's etc. Nothing like the motel:):). I am sure they take good care of patients in the hospital. BUT again, I have heard most parents want to be there and around for ANY decision making........I will be thinking about you & your precious one ......keep us posted on how all is worked out. LOVE & HUGS, grandmomBEV Re: kristy Dear and anyone else, Connor's clinic visit this morning didn't go to badly but it wasn't as good as I'd have liked. His lungs were clear but he still had a chest x-ray and nasal aspirator thingy for a culture. His doctor is a bit concerned because he's had this cough for two and a half weeks now and he doesn't want Connor to get any lung damage. And so if he's not significantly better by Thursday he's going to have to go in for iv's. Not what I wanted to hear. I'm hoping he's going to improve but as it's only a couple of days away we're starting to think about what we're going to do with Jayden if we do have to go in. I definitely dont want him in full time child care for two weeks and can't take two weeks off work. One option is to fly 's Grandmother down from Queesnland. Otherwise I dont know what to do???? , tell me everything about when Eilish was admitted at six months. Were you able to leave during the day or did you stay there the whole time? Did you get a bed to sleep on? What about her food? Tell me everything! I'm so worried but more about what to do with Jayden than giving Connor treatment to make him better. Guest guest
Hi Kristy, a here from Western Australia. I just wanted to let you know that Ashleigh has got puesdomonas augernoisa but since Nov 99 has not had a moist cough or any lung problems. I put her onto a product called Usana they are a natural brand of vitamins and what is on the bottle is in the tablet(not like other brands). They are expensive but for us they have been worth every cent. The web site is www.usana.com if you want to have a look. Being a distributor I can get you some products if you like. Ashleigh is having stomach problems at the moment but other than that she is fine. Hope Connor is ok but like Bev states better in now than letting it grow in his lungs and doing more damage. take care and God bless your family paula mother of ashleigh 7yrs wcf & connor 9yrs wocf -Original Message------- From: Kristy van Donderen Date: Monday, 25 June 2001 19:30:28 To: cfparents Subject: Re: kristy Thanks Johanne, has given me some information about our hospital (we attend the same one) and it's been so helpful. Guest guest
I just wanted to say that when was born she was in the hospital several times I stayed the whole time her longest was 1 and a half months I had people bring me the things I needed I just could not leave her there by herself and I had seen a few mistakes made plus if they needed to do new iv lines or blood draws or anything like that I wanted to be sure and be there I never let them strap her down just couldnt do that However she is my only child so it was easy for me to stay. Maybe there is someone who could alternate with you I didnt have anyone but no other obligations but her. Since you have other children you wouldnt want them being left out Gosh you ya know I've always wanted more children (badly badly) but never really thought of this side of it because if there were hospital stays it would be really tough on the rest of the kids --- bev wrote: > DEAR Kristy, > I am so very sorry your having this start up now. > He is young. Guest guest
HI a, Tell me more about Usana..... I'll look up the web site when I get more time. I'm about to start Connor on a herb called crataegus which seems to get at the cause of many cf problems rather than just fixing them when they occur. Of course I now have to wait until after the ivs or what ever he's getting or not getting. Does your hospital give ivs three monthly after culturing PA or hasn't she cultured it for a while? That is the one thing I'm dreading, is that Connor will culture it and then have to go in every three months. Kristy
Guest guest
, It is going be hard but at least we live just down the road from the hospital so I can go home at least once a day. I really want to try and retain a sence of normality for my other son as best I can. Yes, it is hard having another child to worry about but hopefully when Connor gets older we can do home iv's and Jayden will be at school then. Guest guest
Kristy, Usana is just vitamins that have no artifical junk in them, they are all natural and easy for the body to digest. Ash had been in hospital on and off once they found the PA and then I was put onto them. I thought I have nothing to lose, and tried her on them. (I also take them and so does my husband. They have an adult range, teenage range and childrens. She has their multi-vitamin, vit E, but takes 2 anti-oxidants as well along with Halibut. In summer she has salt tablets They have not been able to see if she still has PA because basically she has never been able to been up any mucus. They found it by doing a broncihal lavage, it was deep in her lungs. Prior to finding it they used to say everything was fine (at our 3mthly visits). Now they dont seemed concerned as she hasnt been moist since NOV 99. They dont automatically put you in every 3mths for Tune-ups, only if your moist. So as far as I am aware she still has it but it is just laying dormant. Keep you chin up. ariginal Message------- From: Kristy van Donderen Date: Wednesday, 27 June 2001 12:47:56 To: cfparents Subject: Re: kristy HI a, Tell me more about Usana..... Guest guest
a, How did you find out about Usana? What sort of vitamins do they contain? Guest guest
Kirsty if you send me your address I will send you some information on them. I was put onto them by the lady who used to take my meditation classes, she thought they might be something that would interest me. It is like a multi-level marketing scheme, you get signed up by someone and then take it from there. I have never tried to do the hard sell on anyone because I didnt join up to make money I joined up to see if it would make a difference and it did (even for me I seem to have more energy). I work part-time at Centrelink so with the added stress of this job and all the worrying you do about CF I was starting to become run down , now I am going to the gym, coaching my sons basketball team and feeling great. They come once a month and with all the products I get cost me about $200 I use Ashleighs Disability allowance towards the cost. Good luck tomorrow a-- Re: kristy a, How did you find out about Usana? Guest guest
Dear , Anything without hubby and kids sounds good to me!! Where does this lady with 7mth live? It would be great to meet up with other cf kids and parents but of course that's a bit hard. Connor's back at clinic on the 28th August. Hopefully he wont need his coli after that and maybe they'll forget about doing a bronch in a few months. Kristy
Guest guest
Kristy, I think she lives in Salisbury. Eilish goes in on the 3rd Sept for her check up. Maybe we can organise a Sunday and meet where ever half way is. Know of any decent eateries? Guest guest
Kristy, I used to thing when Eilish would cry like that, what a good workout her lungs and my ears were getting.Connor must have asthma then to use the spacer? The quiz night is on Saturday night at Goodwood, but for the actual address I'll find out from if you like. We went to the drive-in last night to see Shrek (girls choice). I must have coughed a million times, cold air and asthma don't mix do they. Eilish on the other hand was fine. We reversed my wagon in and pulled down the back seats, put pillows and quilts in there and there we lay watching the movie. 's trying to coax me to go to his mothers today. I'd rather have my finger nails pulled out one at a time, but if they all want to go then I'll just smile and grit my teeth. Re: We're home , I'm not sure about Connor's cough. It's not moist but it does sound chesty. I didn't think he could pick anything up while on Coli?? I dont think he has anything as he hasn't been unwell but he does sound like he's losing his voice. Do you think crying (screaming) for ten minutes 2x a day and during his ventolin 3x and intal 2x via spacer could be the cause??!! I;m sure that is why he is sounding a bit croaky. I hope so anyway. His cough isn't bad - probably a few times a day. But before he started on the Coli (ie. in hospital) he didn't have any cough. I'm getting sick of worrying. I wish he was better. I started him on crataegus today and I believe that this is going to have a significant impact on keeping him healthy. It takes a while to have an effect but as long as it works.....If not I'll try clear lung but this one seems to help fix the problems rather than just prevent infections. Where is the fundraiser quiz night? I remember you mentioning it a while ago. I want to get involved in the CF Association but it's a matter of finding the time. Speaking of which I have heaps of things to do and 's mum is probably trying to ring while I'm online...... Kristy
Guest guest
, We're not sure if Connor has asthma as I dont think they formally diagnosed it until 12 months. But he is on a preventer and reliever puffers which do work - if I miss one he gets wheezy. We've just been up in the hills today to see my grandmother. It's worth the 45 minute drive just for her coffee! Now we've got to get outside and get some work done seeing's as it's a nice day. How are you feeling about tomorrow? I bet Eilish is all excited! Jayden goes back to kindy aswell and I am SO looking forward to it. The three hours he's there isn't long enough! Kristy
Guest guest
Kristy Just took Eilish to kindy and she's there for the longest 3 1/2 hours of my life. She was a bit timid, which isn't Eilish but my girlfriend who is a teacher there was painting with her. I composed myself till I got out the kindy gate then cried all the way home. The first thing I've done is turn on to you guys as you know how it tugs at your heart to leave your kids and the worry. I already told my friend to 'keep her away from the girl in the purple jumper as I've heard her cough and the boy with the runny nose, which she said she'd do. Gee its quite, I really don't know what to do. Re: Re: kristy > , > We're not sure if Connor has asthma as I dont think they formally diagnosed it until 12 months. Guest guest
, I know what you feel--the first day Cody went off to preschool, I didn't know what to do with myself! I'd already had two others go off to school by then, and each one was hard to let go, but this one was just different--as I'm sure all of you know and understand. Guest guest
, I picked her up and she looked like she'd had a ball. Then true to form she started to tell me I was a mean mum etc. for taking her home. Yes that's the Eilish we know and love! When she was quite there its a bit strange. She made me a lion and hand print. And then gave me a note that they are going on an excursion to see snow white(ballet), which she will love. Are you still up? Its 4.56pm here. Guest guest
, It sounds like Eilish had a good day! Is she in pre-entry or normal knidy? I took Jayden this morning and for the first time in weeks he didn't cry when I left him. That makes me feel so good! Otherwise I feel really guilty and dont enjoy my three hours with only Connor. I absolutely LOVE not having Jayden for the morning but I guess it would be different if I didn't have anyone left at home. But still, make the most of it! I started at Tafe tonight and it was great to not think about kids or cf. A very good distraction if only for a few hours. Better finish my dinner..... Guest guest
, That sounds so sweet! I love the handprints that both of my boys made in preschool! I would love the Snow White ballet, too--I went and saw the Nutcracker many years ago in Winnipeg, Manitoba, performed by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet--what a treat!!! I was a junior in high school and was in awe. Our school starts on August 27th, and in some ways, I can hardly wait! I can't even imagine what it will be like to have 3-1/2 hours all to myself! LOL LOL But I am really nervous about the whole thing. We will be setting up something (I thinked they called it Section 504), and I will be meeting with everyone in August. I am glad, though, that he will be my 3rd one at this school, because they already know us very well, and know all about Cody. That should make it easier! Guest guest
Kristy, I don't know what she actually is. If she was in a public kindy then its probably pre-entry but then she would only go on a Friday morning. But this is a private kindy with a 8-25 ratio of teachers to kids. So she could have started when she turned three but didn't. She can go as many sessions as she likes but for each 3 hour session is $14.00 so if you went all week it would be expensive. But even on her first day she was doing things and writing her name, but I forgot to tell them she already could write her name, so they must have thought they were very good teachers to get her to master her name in three hours. Liam went to an awful kindy and they were not helpful with his sessions in regard to Eilish. She goes again on Friday and I think I'll be better that day. They said she was really well behaved and they must have meant my EIlish as she's the only one there, but gee not for me she isn't. Re: Re: kristy > , > It sounds like Eilish had a good day! Guest guest
, I spoke with as many mothers as I could yesterday and deliberately mentioned Eilish had cf (and of course explain and all the bad stuff) and told them how her immune system is low etc. so they probably think gee she's either pushy or outgoing which Im neither but I wanted them all to now and maybe they'll think twice before sending a sick child. Guest guest
As well you had a right to, !! I am very outspoken also, and most people are quite respectful of it. Our school has a policy that kids must be fever-free for 24 hours before coming back, and if they have anything that needs antibiotics, they must be on them for 24 hours (but say they prefer 48, and may possibly go to that in the next year). Hopefully it will help. , mom to Codybug (pwcf, 5-1/2), a (wocf, 12-1/2) and DJ (wocf, 7) smichelle15@... Guest guest
, Your kindy sounds great! I looked into a Montessori in Norwood (the closest to us) and it was $375 a term for two half days?? I think....probably about the same. Of course when Jayden starts it'll be around $1000 for a term so I'm quite happy paying his $5/session at present! His kindy isn't as big as other public ones and the teacher student ratio seems to be higher. In the occassional care it is 1:9 and normal kindy I think there are about 25 - 30 kids and 4-5 teachers. Pretty good and I;m happy for the time being. Of course Eilish was well behaved! Aren't all kids when they're not around their parents??!!
