I spoke with Eilish on the phone a little while ago and she told me she's not coming home for 'days and days'. She does not miss her mummy at all. I just wanted to hear her voice. My 18 month old son was diagnosed 6 days after birth and has not had any problems until today. He went for his checkup and the doctor said that he had bronchitus. What is somewhat normal procedure for this? He has a mild cough but that is it. The doctor said to leave it for now until it gets worse. His CF doctor is on vacation. He has Delta F508 and unknown for markers. We are also just starting CPT... how do you make it so that they don't cry and scream the entire time...Any tips are welcome. We also, spend just about every weekend or so at Cannon Beach and Seaside. We normally stay in Manzanita. We live in Tacoma Wa. Does anyone else live around here? Even though Shantell has CF, she can tell the difference between her CF cough, asthma cough and allergy cough. Asthma are like attacks, can't stop hacking, short violent coughs, gets very little up. CF is thick, deep down in the lungs and moist, sticky cough that usually gets crud up and it usually gets worse by the day. Her allergy is a cold like cough with a raspy finish and her eyes are watery and itchy, usually is worse during the day and very little at night. This is just her experience (I asked her). One thing we do with Patti (all though she is 10 months younger than your son) is to tickle her with the percussor cup as we change positions. We first began pt on her when she was 2 months old and she did cry at first....but after that she got used to it. One thing I have learned is that it isn't the pt that makes her cry, it is the being held down in one position for so long. :-) She still has spells where she won't tolerate it, but if I make sure to have the tv on where she can watch it she quickly settles down. My older three ncf, generally get bronchitis at least once in the winter. We usually up the albuterol treatments and their doc. gives them one antibiotic or another. I am not sure I would let bronchitis " go for now " unless you have all ready upped your breathing treatments and are on an antibiotic as in our experience they only tend to get worse and turn into pneumonia. Sometimes she'd go through the crying stage, but at least there lungs are getting a good workout. What about a favourite video or tell him stories if he's into that. EIlish still has her days but isn't to bad as she knows no different.Although she loves x-mas morning and her birthday morning as there is no physio done on those mornings as they are special to her. I have bronchitis at the moment so I'm walking around like a bank robber with a scarf covering my nose and mouth especially if I need to do her physio. My chest is rattly and I can hear it until I cough then its clear. Liam also has the cough and he had it first and lovely shared it around. Its not stopping her at all. She's been to kindy this morning, ballet this afternoon and tap dancing this evening. She's always full of energy so that's never an indicator for her (must be all those vitamins). Guest guest Posted July 27, 2001 Report Share Posted July 27, 2001 , My daughter had bronchitis in may and they but her on two strong antibiotics one was Bactrium and the other was cephalexison (probably didn't spell this right). As for the CPT it is really hard for kids to understand why we are doing them. We got the vest when our youngest was two months from her second birthday. It is wonder full I highly recommend it. I asked about doing another one and the doctor said if it got worse. Is this a good drug to fight bronchitis? , We attend the Bridge CF Clinic in Tacoma. We haven't really liked any of the docs never seem to have time for questions. You liked the Seattle Clinic? I have been thinking of switching. I have to see if our insurance will allow it. They have told us to use our hand until he is big enough for the vest (several months) How would we go about getting information on how to get the hand held machine? Our clinic promotes hand CPT. Bronchitis in a CF patient who is 18 months old is nothing to " wait and see. " Shantell had bronchitis about that age, ended up in the hospital with a right middle lobe collapsed. I spent months trying to get her healthy again, and her lung was scared for life from it. I'm not trying to scare you here, but lung damage is irreversable. You have an absolutely wonderful CF Center is Seattle. Shantell saw Dr. Bonnie Ramsey as an infant, we loved her. She is doing mostly research now, but we keep in touch with her. Our insurance company won't let us go outside of Arizona, otherwise we would be right there! Both of my sisters live in Kent, WA. I visit pretty often as I work for an airline. As for the CPT, one thing I can tell you is that when you are tense or stressed out, the children sense this. Try to make the CPT a quiet time for you, too. Relax, drink a cup of warm tea (not hot, you may spill it on the little one). Read stories to him or put in a tape that you like too. I LOVE the story " The Princess Bride " . We watched that movie way over a hundred times. It's funny now that my kids are older, they can recite the words to this movie almost verbatim! Give your baby a lolipop to make it a treat to lay their. I also used to massage Shantell with my other hand while doing CPT. Are you doing it by hand or with a vibrator/percussor? We preferred the hand held machine versus the hand. I have a lot of family and friends in Washington, if you need some help, let me know. But I have bronchitis and so does Liam so I'm not blaming kindy. rang the hsp yesterday to say she;s coughing alot. SO we have increased her Ventolin to four hourly and changed her from Augemtin Duo back to cipro. I need to ring them again in the morning if she's still coughing. I slept in the lounge room with her last night so she'd be in the warmest room. She slept fine but I must have woken 4 times. Once to give her a 4am mask and physio. So I'll see what they do but I bet it will be in hsp at the end of the week. Which I'm not to worried about as I would rather her be in and out for her birthday. Re: cough > said: > > > > . We are in Nv now but I did like most of the doctors there. there was a cf doc Dr. Ricker and the main cf doc I liked also but cant seem to recall his name and a GI Dr. Kendall (my favorite) and her surgeon was Dr. Cobb kinda strange but arnt all surgeons? lol but I do remember I did not care for the icu staff (most of them)and some of the nicu staff one thought I should basically mind my own business and not ask questions about my (what med is this what is that)hahaha(you can imagine how well that went over) but I did have an overall good experience as we spent a month and a half there at one point due to some probs and things turned out good Mommy Of the Great --- tjhtriggs@... wrote: > Hi, I am pretty new to posting to the list but I > have a question. Guest guest Posted August 1, 2001 Report Share Posted August 1, 2001 Hi , Yes that would have to be our Dr. Ricker. The other main CF Doc is Dr. Larson. I really like him. Dr. Ricker is very quit. They decided to put Josh on augmentin. But he is now coughing so hard that he is vomiting all over. This is our first time going through this, so it is harder than I thought and the fact that he has CF is now really sinking in. Before it was just in the back of my mind. We never thought about it much because he doesn't have a hard time with his weight, he only takes two enzymes a day and there was no CPT. They should have had us start CPT earlier, so that he would be used to it, because it is terrible now. His chest is 21 inches so only one more to go till the vest. He liked that when we tried it in clinic. If anyone has any suggestions for any of this, I would appreciate it. I have been giving him a couple extra doses of the homeopathic medicines we have.
