Welcome !

I will try and address your questions. I had an open DS with Dr Welker in Portland, OR in July and am happy to take a stab at the questions.

is it helpful to go on Atkins or other program pre-op just to loosen up the skin a bit? I could force myself to lose 8-12 pounds if it would help Yes--losing even 10% of your excess weight before surgery is very helpful in preventing too much pressure from building up in the abdomen after the stress of surgery. Any weight loss will help, just be careful to keep your protein levels up as well. do any of you believe that massive doses of Vitamin C would help reduce risk of infection or speed healing? Not that I am aware of.

immediately after surgery, for the first 2-3 weeks, what did you eat? Did you puree food? Eat cottage cheese and yogurt? What should I stock up on? Be careful about " stocking up " on much of anything. Your tastes will change an amazing amount and it is hard to predict what will taste good post op. If anything stock up on a small amount of a number of things to make sure you have lots of variety. I was able to eat what sounded good 3 days after surgery, so puree is not standard for everyone--do what feels good at the time.

do they shave the belly? As a hairy guy, I assume my pelt will have to go.... Mine was not shaved, but I have no hair there either! *smile*

could you sleep on your side or stomach when you first came home from the hospital? I can't sleep on my back due to back problems associated with weight and apnea. I was not very comfortable on my side initially, but I had open surgery. You may find that side sleeping will be Ok, with the smaller incisions fron lap surgery. I think it will be a wait and see proposition.

If you have any more questions, , send them along. You will find us to be a helpful bunch! Take care and best of luck with your switch!

Warm Regards,

Kristy,

Rima is Rima Stagas the specialist and the most hated!

Liam's room is blue with to many dinosaurs to count. HE has loved them

since he was 1 and no sign of changing. Eilishs is pink and burgundy with

puppy dog boarder. We painted our toy room bright yellow and purple, sounds

gross but looks nice. I'm thinking of doing the rest of the house sage and

a goldie sand colour with a chair rail, but because that is such a huge area

I need to get rid of the kids and husband!

It annoys me that has to work every Saturday. Does do every one

also. gets two Wednesday's a month of but I work Wednesdays. The

only good thing is the money.

I met a lady from Blair Athol with a 4 year old with cf and a 6mth old boy

without. Cant remember her name but I know the daughters is Alanna. Her

daughter wasnt dx until 12mths. Eilish was in when they came in. She has

it mildly with F508 and the gene that start Rh or R1 or similiar Ive seen in

on this list. She dosnt need enzymes and has never been ill or never taken

antibiotics and only goes to clinic once every 6 mths. How lucky!

> finishs work at 5pm today. Normally I'm out shopping on a Saturday

morning but I have a little boy in care today so we've been doing absolutely

nothing! Connor has just been driving me round the bend as he wouldn't

settle to have his nap. He'd scream everytime I got him settled in my arms

and went to put him down. Sounds like he's asleep now.

> I do usually take echinachea with vit C when I get a cold (probably should

do before hand) and I swear by it but I haven't got much of a cold at the

moment. Jayden really only has a runny nose so hopefully it wont get any

worse.

> Who is Rima?? I think I'll just go to emergency if I'm worried. Connor

hasn't made any dramatic improvements but his cough isn't quite as chesty.

It seems easier for him to cough the mucus up.

> More painting tomorrow.....Connor's room is looking SO good! At least the

painting tomorrow is the fun part - blue and cream.

Yes, works every Saturday. He gets a day off per fortnight but that

depends on public holidays and how busy he is. The day varies depending on what

day I want him off! His work is very good - they ley him come home at a drop of

a hat if I need him for Connor.

If you see that lady from Blair Athol again, let her know that there is a new

playgroup at Prospect library for special needs children. It;s on a Thursday but

it's only just started so there's not many of us yet. The lady who organised it

has a son with asthma - I know that is a special need but I just can't put it in

the same category as cf. Still, it's good to talk with other mum's who are going

through similar things.

When did you start Eilish swimming? Connor is old enough now but I'm going to

wait until next term. Even then I'll be worried. We go to the Aquatic centre so

I think they should be very hygeinic - I know the place you go to is extremely.

I'll have to ask at his next clinic visit.

Still no great improvement with his cough. I guess it's hard to see if it's

improving when I'm around him all the time. I have to keep comparing him to last

week as I know he was worse then.

I went into the city BY MYSELF last night and it was fantastic!! Tomorrow night

I'm going to a Nutrimetic party and leaving the kids home with . I've had

enough of them lately! Not that they have been hard but I've done to much family

day care lately and now I need a break. I'll be going up to Queensland soon -

see the dreaded inlaws. They're not that bad but I'm glad we live 3 thousand km

away!

Better be going. ;'s gone to the bottle shop to get me some wine. I need it

tonight!!

Love Kristy

My in-laws have never so much as wiped a nose of my kids.

I can truly say I dislike them immensely. But then my husband doesn't have

time for them as they made it that way by rejecting all of us. They know

nothing about my children but could tell you every little details about my

niece. My niece is beautiful, but I can see the favouritism and it drives

me nuts. Whereas my parents cant do enough for us. My brother is

babysitting for us tomorrow night so and I can go to dinner and see

Moulin Rouge.
