My PERSONAL opinion has been noted here quite often: I think

that the professional care at Cleveland is the best I have ever

experienced from any hospital. If you check the history of posts

on Dr. Natale, he is believed by many to have created the PVA technique

which has

saved my life and the lives of hundreds of others, perhaps more than

a thousand other persons whose lives were seriously impaired by afib.

Many others on the list have the same opinion. I could have gone any place

in the United States (such is my insurance) and after much

study, and with the insights of many here. I came to believe

that Dr. Natale would be the single best surgeon to deal with my

afib. There are many excellent hospitals in the Chicago area,

none, however, I believe, come close to Cleveland's

ability and service in the area of the heart (The first research on

Vioxx and a link to heart attacks was done by physicians and

researchers at Cleveland). On the whole, I think it may well

be the best single hospital in the nation, while acknowledging

that there are thousands of others I've not any experience with.

So -- it cost me a few hundreds dollars in plane fares and hotel,

and after my insurance paid off about $50,000.00 +, I wound up with

a bill for about $600.00 I still see my cardiologist here in Chicago

but for heart surgery, I will, if it is at all possible, choose Cleveland,

and Dr. Natale (or whoever he recommends.)

Good day. I wanted to toss in my two cents. You ask an excellent question.

Depending on what you want, would determine where to go. If you choose a drug

therapy,

Loyola would be fine. If you want to take a more aggressive approach to

dealing with your AF, then the Cleveland Clinic should be considered. Being as

close as you are to it.

The CC is the USA #1 heart center. Has been for years. When they talk of

cutting edge technology and procedures, the CC is the cutting edge. You want the

best? Go to the CC.

Loyola is also a major medical center. No doubt you would get excellent care

there.

I think your question to Lew of " What is Cleveland going to do for me that

Chicago won't? Or What does Chicago not have that Cleveland does " ? Should be

directed to a Loyola EP to answer. Lew and many other on our board have had

successful pulmonary vein ablations at the CC, by Dr. Andre Natale. He is the

top

EP in the US and one of the elite few in the world, who specializes in Atrial

Fibrillation and it's causes and cures. He works at it full time.
